Decided to start the process of chasing down some leaks. Figured I’d replace the whole lot while I was there.
    Valve cover gaskets
    Spark plug seals
    Plug wires
    Cam plugs
    Plenum gasket
    Pcv valve seal.
    Etc.
Also did some sand blasting while everything was off

Ran out of day light so it turned into a 2 part deal. Partially back together-ish.

Replaced upstream O2 sensor as part of my Xtreme Preventative Maintenance Program and quest for MAXIMUM emm pee geeze.

    crusty.jpg

Hardest part was getting the harness mount bugger off its perch on the transmission. Used needle-nose vise grips on the tab that allows you to disconnect the O2 plug so I could wiggle it out: EZ out-of PEEZEE, would recommend. Bolts came off easy but the gasket was disintegrating into a jillion pieces all over my face... I have a hard time believing a factory-original O2 sensor can last 15+ years and 170k+ miles without throwing a CEL, but just LOOK at that gasket devastation.

Did a halfhearted "cleaning" of the gasket mounting surface on the exhaust, bolted her up, and took her for a spin. My butt dyno was immediately tingling and the taco seemed much more responsive, but we know how that goes.

Bonus nachos: the left-most instrument cluster light that I had assumed burned out several weeks ago started working again... dunno if that's due to battery disconnect or new O2 sensor XD

I’ve just replaced my O2 sensors. To my knowledge they have never been replaced. I’m the second owner, and truck has 358k on the body. It never threw a CEL for the O2 until now. I assume it’s because I replaced the upstream sensor but left the old downstream because I ordered the incorrect one. Correct downstream is on the way, hopefully is the only reason it’s now thrown a P0420

I replaced my o2 sensors after popping a p0420. 200k miles with no previous indications of it being replaced prior FWIW

I'm probably asking a Tacomaworld 101 question here but ...you need 17" wheels to do the Tundra brake upgrade, right? That's the only reason I haven't and probably won't do it for the foreseeable future...don't want to have to buy new wheels since I have 16s.

Most 16's will clear tundra calipers. All Toyota 16" wheels will for sure, the only aftermarket ones I've seen that don't are D-window steelies. What wheels do you have?

I believe they're American Racing wheels but I'm not 100% sure, previous owner put them on.

Damn all this time I thought 17s were a requirement for the Tundy brake upgrade...guess I'll have to look into this now. With how heavy my truck is getting it would be great to have better brakes
