Been craving a whiskey sour all week. So that's the sipper for tonight. If any of you pour these at home, do you prefer egg whites?

    Yes do break this down.

I like both with and without egg white but probably prefer with. Just gotta make sure to dry shake either pre or post ice shake or both to get that really nice froth. It’s a bit more work but worth the payout. Also try muddling an orange slice before the shake for added flavor depth.

Here’s a good recipe for a sour I’ve been using for years, if your looking.

2 or 3 bar spoons white sugar (I prefer 3)

    Add egg white (optional)

Muddle 1/2 orange wheel with peel after cutting pith off

Add 2 oz bourbon/Rye of choice. (Buff Trace, Eagle Rare, Russell’s Reserve, Four Roses, Bulliett Rye all work well but really whatever you like will probably work as long as it’s not super thin)

Juice of one whole lime and 1/2 of one lemon or you can measure and go equal parts.

    Shake vigorously and dump

If you’re using egg white, double or triple shake and strain over fresh ice. Add luxardo cherry for garnish. Enjoy.

As for Buff Trace bourbon cream I’ve only tried it once at the distillery and never seen it since, thought it was pretty good though!

That's it yotabum. It's a liqueur similar to Baileys Irish Creme. Not a bourbon but made with it. Buffalo Trace and Evan Williams both make it.

I never had bourbon creme liqueur until I did the tour at Buffalo Trace. There they mix it with root beer and is surprisingly good. The next time I tried it was tailgating at a cold football game, someone had it and is great with hot chocolate. I keep a bottle for hot chocolate on cold days.

It can be harder to find sometimes. Many stores will keep it in the area with Baileys and mixes so it's easily missed if your like me and just look behind the counter and at the bourbon and whiskey aisles. Should be just under $30 and I think it's worth a try.

Probably my favorite Compass Box. For sure my favorite for the money. Oak Cross is a safer recommendation for folks if you don't know what they like, but the bolder flavor of the Spice Tree is where it's at for me.

Really cool story behind the Spice Tree, too. John Glaser giving the middle-finger to the Scotch Association with typical American bravado .

Finally after 2 months of searching. I was able to pick up some Buffalo Trace. Good price too. $28 bucks.
Also snagged a bottle of Blanton's.

Yeah, as I was standing in the isle researching it I found the story about the SWA threatening to sue him for the previous version of Spice Tree because he used oak staves in the barrel (oh the horror!), yet they allow distillers to use artificial coloring (caramel). Screwy system, but it made me smile and want to buy it even more. Wish I had a bottle of the "illegal" stuff!

The jockey/horse runs the derby when you have all 8 letters to spell out blantons. I heard they distribute all the letters evenly but I can never find a darn S in PA

Collect all the letters to spell B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S. Check out ebay- some people put a high value on them... It's funny because you can buy a set from Blanton's on line for $40.

Yes, and you have to discriminate on the N... there is an N with 1 . and there is an N with two .. As they are in animated position, it makes a difference

This fell through. My buddy went and they didn't have any more. He ended up finding just one at some other store. The shop I go to hasn't gotten his stuff in, yet, so I'll see if he gets a Night Watch. Still interested if he does?
