Recently noticed a crackling/buzzing/vibrating noise coming from the passenger side dash area. Initially, I thought the speaker was going out but after the car warms up and I drive it for a bit the sound sometimes goes away.

    Anyone else observe this?

All the time. I live in Maine, freezing temps a third of the year. It gets quite annoying at times. Takes about 5-10 minutes of warming up for the noise to dissipate and completely stop.

Its funny that I was gonna post about this later today...

I notice it mainly when I'm backing up my driveway. Coming from the passenger side and sounds like its some crazy vibration. I have noticed it sometimes when I'm idling and just rolling down the street in my neighborhood.
To me its not normal but what do I know....

It’s a common issue. It’s the speaker cover on the dash. I was able to get it to stop by adding some felt it there but it came back. Only happens in the winter when it’s cold out.

So the sound for me is coming from what sounds like the passenger floor board... It also stated before it started getting cold. not saying you wrong it just doesn't make sense

    You have a 2nd gen?
    Fyi
Probably get better info on your specific problem in the 2nd gen forum. Maybe wheel bearing.

It sucks to say I'm happy I'm not the only one. Only when cold, goes away after a few minutes of warm defrost. Figured I'd create another if I tore into the dash looking so I tolerate it for the winter mornings.

I have the same rattle, and I've traced it to the dash speaker cover rear side clips (the clips closest to passenger seat and tailgate). I put the soft side of a piece of velcro with sticky backing against the A piller and that solved it last winter but it came back this fall.

Others have traced a rattle to a piece of insulation/padding that shifts inside the A pillar. Can't find the thread on it though.

I've got some kind of buzzing noise coming from behind the glove compartment.

I've padded and zip tied every lose wire I can see, no avail.

Somebody said it's the clip for air bag behind the dash just above glove compartment.

I'm not brave enough to get into that.

I know this is an old post and really my first post on the site, but I felt compelled to post this. I have had the truck for four months-ish. This sound drove me nuts. I spend two hours a day in my truck and couldn't help but focus on the sound. Brought my truck in for its 20k checkup and finally had a tech that also has a Taco and knew exactly what I was explaining. This piece of foam is the cause of the sound. They cut it out of the A pillar and spray foamed it. Gone. Fixed. If you crinkle this foam because of the plastic on the back it makes the exact sound everybody is explaining. It meets the glove box, A pillar, speaker housing on passengers side. Hope it helps.

was yours making the sound off and on or just consistently. I’m hearing a crackling and popping noise from the glovebox area but the tray is in completely and I have felt between the pillar and speaker so I have no clue now where it could be

On my truck, this noise was exactly as you described. I found it to be the passenger side A-pillar trim rubbing against the speaker cover. I pushed in the bottom of the A-pillar in. The noise never returned.

Edit. Just realized that this is an old thread revived... :anonymous:
