The other bushing spot that could cause a squeek might be the factory bushings in the frame side of the shackle.

Yes-yes -yes to what YotaDan just said.......it was the ONLY spot to "Squeak" after my re-frame ( 2 months after ;) ).....keep "chasing" that one....everything on bottom side gets cleaned and re-lubed after every service or "rough play time" (our calcium chloride rock salt drys and rots just like Yankee Mud).....

:D I have to protect my 15 year warranty ;).........

I thought YotaDan was just blaming the only part that he didn't sell to me.

Fine, I will retorque and relube this weekend. But I'm not staying out of the mud! What's the point of going out to play if you can't get dirty?

Okay, everything is rewashed, regreased, and retorqued. And of course nothing squeaked just prior to the whole two hour ordeal of cleaning out the friction pads in between the leafs. Damn it was dirty under there!
I think it took just as long to clean things up as it did to install in the first place.
    Fingers crossed everyone...

To stop them from squeaking in the future, you should just limit your ventures to the mall...

    Now you know how guys feel about maintaining a relationship,our trucks prepare us well ;):cool:;

Constant up-keep from the purchase, constant changes of operating..upgrades.. new & improved lubricants every 2-3 months..keeping it CLEAN,inside and out and too top it off...even the BEST pm's can leave you with a "No Start".....( these can be dangerous..lasting an hour or an eternity ?????):cool:

MT, I hope you found "IT",cured "IT" but most of all understand "IT".....

p.s. jumping the curbs at a mall are NOT considered "Roughing it" :D:D but would explain the "Barbie complex" :p;)

I do take care of my truck...every whine, scrape, or clunk and I'm instantly investigating for a cause. And I'm not sure that I found it this time. The truck would not make a sound before I was getting ready to tear into things (pisses me off) but first thing this morning it was at it again. Less so than before but still there. Maybe the truck got scared as I was walking down the driveway with a sledgehammer and jack...

And Barbies drive Jeeps, not Tacomas! :p

Still got the squeak eh? Hmm.. the original shackles give me crap every once in a while, I might replace them sooner or later, damned rubber.

Mine was clunking since just right after I went mudding with a couple of the guys over in Stokes in NJ. Damned slip yoke in the rear was almost bone dry... took me a tube and a half of grease to do the entire drive shaft(s) (front and rear).. both the joints and slips. no more clunk though... Hope you find the squeak and murder it soon. :D

Great thread you've started here. My suspension is in about the same condition as your previous one so it answers a lot of my own questions, I may not ever have to start a new thread:). What I would like to know though, is what was included in the "assorted nuts and bolts" portion of your order. I'm thinking of going for the same setup so I'm curious.

Great to know you were able to sort through the BS in here and find something useful! LOL Any other questions just speak up I would also suggest checking out the group buy thread if you haven't already - more BS and info to sort through there too. And any answer you can't get from us here, YotaDan at Wheeler's should be able to cover.

my complete order of 'nuts and bolts' was the following:
    bumpstops
    brakeline
    sway bar bushings/anti sway kit
    steering rack bushing kit
    u-bolt set
    diff drop kit
    main eye bolts

I may have gone a little overboard but as long as things were getting ripped out I figured best to do it all at once and I don't have many local options for Tacoma parts. The only thing that I didn't replace was the rear shackles - the stock ones were in good shape and my initial budget was blown so I decided to make do with the original set.

Some of the other guys who got the leafs at the same time as me had issues getting the main eye bolts out, definitely recommend having those on hand if you decide to go this route with your truck. And new u-bolts are recommended too. Everything else was sort of optional.

As much bitching as I have done since the install (yes it still squeaks but I am coping with it) I love the new set up and am glad that I got rid of the old crap. Its almost like driving a new -and better- truck!

Definitely get a new set of main eye bolts. I had to cut mine, they just would not break loose and the driver's side was a total bitch to remove even with cutting. Damned gas tank.

I was barely able to get that drivers side one out with a pair of channel locks. I do live in the desert though so not much rust on my truck. If you live anywhere other than the desert, get the new hardware.

Yeah, I lucked out here, too, but my truck has lived in Central California all its life. Once I got the pressure off them with some pry bar magic, mine pretty much slid right out and looked, uh, new. I bought new ones before I started anyway. Cheap insurance. From everything else I have read about these little bitches, my case was very unusual...

Great, thanks for the tip. I will definitely pick up those up beforehand. One question though, and this might be a stupid one; when you say main eye bolt do you mean the hanger pin bolt? Or are is that a different bolt entirely?

    Thanks.

Oh, I think I see it now (have a diagram in front of me but it's not labeled very well). We're talking about the bolt through the center of the spring seat, right?

Yes, main eye bolt, hanger pin bolt...it is a stupid name. It is the bolt that attaches the front of the spring to the truck's frame.

The rear of the spring is attached to a "shackle" that attaches to the frame. It is basically two bolts/pins pressed into a plate, which attaches to another plate which is held together with nuts. You undo only the nuts and pull one side of the plate off. The other half is one assembly that slides out of the bushings. Do not try to pound out the pins/bolts individually. This has stumped many people. Unless you live in a corrosion-prone area, you should be able to reuse the shackles no problem. You should have someone jump up and down on the bumper and watch the shackles to sse that they are articulating correctly (swiveling) at least.

Also be sure to get new U-bolts. You are not supposed to reuse them...
