I had the same problem when i lifted my truck. I had a friend do mine @ my local toyota dealer. I took it back up to him after i noticed it. I used the 5100's set at 1 3/4 and 2" blocks due to my camper shell. it was due to not droping the transfer case when truck was lifted. My buddy said it wouldn't hurt anything except u joints may wear out faster. I switched to 1" blocks and it fixed the problem. hope this helps

    Haha...not doing it...can't make me!
I did my lift myself...Toytec ULK....OME Dakar, removed sway bar, installed diff drop...no problems what so ever but I had this crazy annoying click. Took me two days to realize my new 16" wheels I put on the same day had been balanced a couple days prior and the tech put the weights right were the brake caliper would tap them. Drove me freakin crazy until I found it!

    In progress :/
I have a 3 inch lift which consists of icon coilovers with light racing uca in the front, and 1.5" AAL and OME shocks in the back. I am experiencing take off shudder (5-10mph) and a vibe in the gas pedal (55-70 mph)

I tried the CB drop from Toytec, and that did nothing. I want to try axle shims, but I don't think that I have enough thread left on the u-bolts to do it. I think at most I have 2-3 threads on the bolts. Does anyone know how much I would need?

Anyone have worse vibs after installing the cb drop?

I installed the cb drop to help with low speed vibration...mistake! The vibration was much worse. I then installed the 3 degree rear shims...better, removed the cb drop...even better! So my truck has the famous toyota take off vibration, but with the 3" lift and 3 degree spacers its ok. I would love to hear any other ideas for fixing the low speed vibs!

Id like to see the symptoms tracked by truck type.

I know on my F250 the bearing carriers mostly had to be dropped on the extra cab long beds and each configuration had its own problems.

So I imagine that could be the case for the Toyota's also. Its got to be a different length drive shaft for the access cab and the double which would potentially create a different angle to begin with.

In my own case I got no shake by raising the rear 2 inches. Adding the front 5100's at 2.5 caused a vibration at 20 to 40 mph (pretty minor) and then adding the diff drop makes the vibration now go from 10 to 60 accompanied by a whine as well as a clunk when going from 4H to 2H. I'm taking off the diff drop today.

I have an 07' 4X4 Sport Access cab, Automatic, regular bed.

I should also mention that I still have stock wheels and tires pretty much.

Well tonight I took the diff drop off and the whine or more like the sound and feel you get from running big nobby tires went away. It also doesnt clunk when going from 4h to 2h on the fly. Now its just a small vibration and noise around 30 to 40 mph.

I tried lowering the cb 1/4 inch just for the heck of it and it made no difference at all. I should also mention that I raised the rear before the front and drove around for about 4 or 5 days with no vibrations aside from the 0 to 5 mph its always had.

Also, the lift in the back is actually only about 1.25 to 1.5 inches at the wheel well. That makes it just a little higher than the front. Its airbags so its adjustable to riding comfort, thats why its an about figure.

Update if anyone was following this.

Today I decided to lower the front to see if it changed the vibration. Well it did a little bit but not too much. One major thing I noted though is that when I have the front wheels in the air and spin the tires, the drivers side axle gives a ticking sound and seems to wobble a bit (the axle itself, not the wheel).

Ive read through what seems like hundreds of posts about these problems and saw that many, many people have said that their diff was messed up and once lifted it revealed the problem, well I was very skeptical of that theory, until now. Whether the problem was there before or not it sure is now.

If it gets quiet once you are in 4HI then suspect the front diff. Im almost curious if this problem could be caused by doing the lift and allowing the axle to extend too far during the process and letting something get in the wrong place. Cause it sure seemed smooth before the lift.

Its just hard to imagine that the design would allow any problems too occur within the normal range of the suspension, speaking to 5100's, spacers and the like.

Anyways, I have the extended warranty and plan on taking it to the dealer in the next week or so to have them see what they think.

Oh yea, I took good pictures and will post a how to - strut change out tomorrow. I know there is a sticky, but the pics are expired and the instructions are lacking some key info.

That is if anyone is still wanting to mess with the 2nd gen suspension, he he.

I've got the dreaded front diff vib. Goes away in 4hi and comes back when it's off.

Yep. I've got "big truck" hum from roughly 55 to 60 mph.

I had mild vibes from 25 to 30mph, but I solved that.

I spent some time researching and running it down. Best articles I found are:

    http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...line-101.shtml

And THIS document is effin' awesome: http://www2.dana.com/pdf/J3311-1-HVTSS.PDF

I describe how I measured driveline flange distance in my OME suspension install thread:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/su...talls-full-ome-kit-rear-brake-lines-pics.html

I put in a 4 degree shim and that didn't improve the driveline flange distance, just reversed it from top to bottom. So today I took that out and put in a 2 degree shim. Note that I've got the shim in "backward" - which is fat end forward, in order to bring the pinion end down and make the pinion end flange parallel to the transfer case end flange.

That solved my 25-30mph vibration (which was pretty mild as these things go) but I've still got 55-60mph "big truck" hum. haven't measured it exactly but every indication is that my driveline is operating at a more extreme angle than the design specs in that dana/spicer doc I posted. The expected consequence of doing that is vibration and earlier U Joint failure.

That's OK. One consequence of wheelin' is the need to keep a close eye on all your undercarriage components. So I'll just keep an eye on it.

I've been told the take off shudder is due to the weak rear leaf springs, not sure if that is true? But I do know that my tacoma has had a pretty bad take off shudder since it left the lot! I put my 2" aal in and my take off shudder got better, but I installed a 2 degree shim for the 60-70mph vibs, and did get some of that take off shudder back. (not as bad as it was stock) I have eliminated most of my vibs, still a slight take off shudder and a very light vib at 25-40 gonna try a cb drop, I think this will cure the 25-40 vib but may worsen the take off shudder.

Takeoff shudder from 0 - 10 mph. Shimmed the carrier bearing with 1/4" of washers and gone. No vibes at any other speeds.

In my opinion, most carrier bearing drop brackets on the market drop way too much. Looking at my driveshaft and CB position, a 2 inch or more drop would've force it too far in the other direction.

I say try shimming 1/4" to 1/2" with grade 8 washers before looking into a full blooded drop bracket for the CB. I might see if I can get beefed to make me a custom 1/4" one.
