Rear end metallic clunk/pop

Most of the time I’m going slow (5mph) while turning going forward or backward in or out of my angled driveway I hear a clunk/pop metallic sound in the rear. This is when the body is slightly articulating.

Confirmed it’s in the rear.
I do not think it’s the body mounts.
Sliders are torqued.

I don’t think it’s my Dakar leafs slapping in the leaf holding brackets, nothing else I can see is rubbing anywhere. Trying to figure it out is making me nuts.

Thoughts?

 

Clutches sticking in the rear end...probably the wrong diff. fluid

 

I have an AT. Not wrong fluid. I only use the right fluid. Has only done it in the last 6-10 months

 

I’ve noticed this over the last few days with stock leaf springs. It has been pretty cold at night when the truck sits for 8-10 hours.

 

I wasn’t referring to the transmission...

 

If you have poly leaf spring bushings, do you have greaseable shackle bolts? Mine started making noise and I installed greaseable bolts. Problem solved...

 

They are OME yellow bushing and 6-leaf medium Dakars...use to be 7-leaf.

Maybe I do need to grease the bushings? Would they really make a pop noise like that?

 

So you think the diff is sticking even in 2wd?

 

Mine sounded like squeaky bed springs but I suppose it all depends on how long it's been installed without greasing them. It's a real pain in the ass to grease them without the greaseable bolts.

 

Yah I use to have that squeak but this sounds like leafs slapping a shock body. Metal clapping.

Confirmed everything is tight and it’s not the shock bodies touching anything

 

Do you have a broken leaf?

 

Nope. Just checked all that

 

Hmmm... We're back to 'is everything lubed correctly'?

 

This is the best guess so far. Get some energy suspension lube. I use it on my Dakars and they are nice and quiet.

Even my friend who owns a 4wd drop couldn’t find what was causing it. So I asked here on TW.

Long shot- spare tire up tight?

 

Spare tire?
Shock topping out?
Revisit body mounts? Undercarriage noises can 'throw voices'.
