Will the OEM roof rack support a 16ft canoe?

    OEM Roof rack
    I have a Double Cab short box. Looking for ideas to safely transport a canoe? I like the look and price of the OEM roof rack, but from reading other posts here it looks like its more about looks than function. Any ideas?

    Glad to help. The extend-a-hitch is the ticket when using the factory rack. The Hardor Freight version is the cheapest I've found. I use it in conjunction with the OEM rack on my doublecab for my 15' Mohawk Royalex canoe.

    I have the instructions that came with the rack and it states the load limit is 100lbs...

    Very pleased with this rack and would highly recommend it.

    I'm also trying to decide on an OEM rack, but I've come across this rack from TacomaPartsStore.com:

    It goes for around $230, which is considerably less than what Toyota dealers want for their OEM racks.

    My question: Is this rack from ToyotaTacomaParts the same as the OEM rack? I'd like to get the rack at a price I can afford, but I don't want to get it and then realize it's not as good as the OEM. Intent is to mount some Thule equipment on the cross bars.

    I put an 16 foot old town canoe on my OEM rack with no issue....

    I just put it on for pics and will reposition it before the trip. Fits nice!
