What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I still need to get my windows tinted.

 

Thats why I said I have had no issues with my steel wheels and clearance.

Has anyone with a 1995-1998 truck been successful in reporting transmission temperature to a ScanGauge?

My ScanGauge won’t read mine properly and I’m wondering it it’s a year by year issue.

 

I think I remember reading that this info is not available for those years.

Yeah me too. I do know there’s a member on here with a 1999 that managed to do it.

I put a 1999 transmission on my truck when I did my 4x4 conversion so maybe there’s a chance. It’s all handled in the ECU, which is still 1998, so who knows.

 

Pulled the rack and pinion steering gear.

What I didn't do was get the lower half of the rag joint off the old gear. Backed the "keeper bolt" out of the pinch clamp completely but it still won't slide off. Soaked it with some PB Blaster as I believe it's supposed to just slide off. Hopefully tomorrow I can report that I installed the new gear.

 

You should be able to hear and feel any brake drag by jacking the rear axle off the ground and spinning a wheel by hand. Should be pretty obvious if the brakes are dragging.

Yeah, '01-'04 only.

I recall we used one of those slide pullers to get mine off. Rented one at O'Reilly Auto Parts.

 

Damn. I do remember someone with a 1999 being able to report transmission temp. I could be remembering that wrong.

 

1999 4Runner can but I don't believe Taco can being the lower buck model

 

Anyone have the Spicer part numbers for the carrier bearing and premium non-gressable U-joints?

I've seen 2 or 3 different part numbers for the carrier bearing and can't find anything but the greasable U-joints.

Tap a blade screw driver in the rag joint. Should open it up more.

This almost makes me mad I bought a scan gauge but I got it for the same price as the ultra on sale so can't complain too much

 

I had the same problem. A hammer and pry bar eventually got it off. Then tap it on and off the old rack repeatedly till it slides nice, will let it slide right on the new rack if you'll be installing after the rack is mounted (shown in @Timmah!'s video)

 

Air chisel and heat is what we used, was a PITA but got it off

 

Lol. Which one of your trucks are you using the SG on?

 

The only one with an auto. Igor the double cab. Frank may get a UG at some point for knowing fuel trims and also how much gas is really left for trips. But that's it really.
