    I’ll have no issue sitting up front fat dumb and happy eating cinnamon rolls on my way across the planet. Funny story though, although I bet it wasn’t funny at the time!

    One of my friends is a current C-130 pilot. Says the meanest thing they like to do is make cookies up front, then put them in a bag with a carabiner, and shoot it down the static line cable to the loadmaster in the back. Makes the grunts in back super happy.


    Dad was a tanker pilot for most of his AF career. Said the fighter support crew riding in the pax area on ferry flights would bring trivia games, books, etc and basically have all the fighter guys play jeopardy over the radio just to keep them stimulated.

    Yeah, KC-135s are not fun for pax.

    My brother was an FE on C-5s for 8 years, including a Thanksgiving dinner across the Atlantic. Air crew ate, and the Army pax got box lunches. The sad thing was that the Air Force tried to hold movement on the mission for 12 hours so everyone could at least feast at the DFAC, but TRANSCOM said "nope - move 'em ASAP."

    The Army really hates its own.

    My trip back to join my squadron was on a C-141 and we had to make an emergency landing at Lajes AFB in the Azores. We sat there 6 days waiting for a new engine to be installed. Proceeded to Cairo and broke there with a flap/slat problem. Navy finally airline'd me from Cairo to Dubai.

    Yeah, stranded in Cairo is a no go for me.

    Dad was telling me a good one yesterday on the phone about how he tried to be a nice guy for some Space A travelers that had to go from Kadena to Travis, and were slated to go via Honolulu, but they got bumped off their jet. Said "We got room in the -10, but we're going through Elmendorf. Want a ride?" They accepted, packed and dressed for warmed weather, and guess where the jet broke for 4 days.

    I can only imagine! That's how my life works!

    Nowadays, I break in places like Coatesville, PA where everything closes at 7pm and there's no good Asian Massage Parlors around.
