It's been my experience that this isn't an ECU problem, rather it's the factory throttle mapping. Pedal Commander, combined with TSB 62-18, fixed every issue that I had with erratic shifting.

Even from their blog, OVTune states, "From that point the ECU will select WHATEVER gear it determines is necessary to match driver demand (gas pedal)." PC changes the demand signal to something a lot more linear, and the ECU responds better as a result.

I'm not trying to take away from anything OVTune does. I'm sure they have a great product, but I think PC is a better bang for the buck in terms of driveability.

    Should I chime in ?
How many of you guys actually had your transmission fluid level checked ?
We all know they have been coming low on trans fluid from the factory for a long long time
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...be-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/

When you purchased your new truck , what is the mileage that Toyota recommended you change the transmission fluid ?
    Is the fluid Lifetime ?
What does Aisn Seiki have to say ? They are the guys who build your automatic transmissions
Have any of you guys asked the designers of the transmission whats going on ?
    Look here http://www.aisin.com/profile/global/north_america/

    1. It's an Asin transmission so privileges are probably built in from the factory and given to whomever buys their transmissions. Lots of software comes with privileges built in now so you don't brick the thing. Heck even windows does.

    2. There haven't been any bricked ECU's. And Toyota, with all their mighty engineers, are still a company. Companies have bottom lines, and deadlines that must be met. If this truck is coming out in September 2016, then come hell or high water it's coming out . There's probably a dozen TW members that helped OVtune develop this by driving revisions and providing feedback, and there's easily overlooked a million miles on tuned tacos with no problems to date.

    3. There isn't always pros & cons. That's a skewed way of looking at engine mods, no offense. In the diesel world its easy to make more HP and torque off stock engines while maintaining and increasing fuel economy. The engine Toyota put into this truck is a damn good one, and it's left wanting more.

I ran OVtune for 40000km, no issues only good things to say. Better economy more low down torque. Sadly sold my truck to a buddy for family reasons.

My trans is driving me nuts I love this truck but the trans make me want to trade it in. Can’t even slide the damn thing in the dirt around a turn because it lags so much. You have to anticipate like 2-3 seconds ahead of time if you need to get on the gas. Really frustrating.

Just curious, if Toyota is now issuing TSB's to address this problem, why don't they just issue a TSB that is effectively the OVtune and call it a day?

Pretty sure every test drive I've ever done included getting it on the expressway and mashing the gas pedal :burnrubber:.

Toyota isnt issuing tsbs to fix our shifting complaints. They could copy the OVTune but Toyota would never issue more than a TSB. It would never be a mandatory update because that would be akin to admitting they fucked up.

Lol wait till the you mash it and it does nothing. It's a pucker show.

Without knowing anything about anything, I can take a look at this and say that’s too complicated lol.

TW trying to explain the transmission algorithmalways sunny meme.jpg

I am learning so much by googling these acronyms LOL. Definitely been noticing the transmission doing a clunk downshifting, and would be interested in getting an OVTune. Whats the cost and procedure to have this done?

It's on his website you can either get the software/hardware package and use a laptop to install it or get a handheld tuner all in one

According to OVtune, big Toyota has been in contact with them. He (Mat) could not reveal the nature of their discussions, but did reveal that in 2019 his business will solely focus on Toyota-specific tuning etc.

I'm very happy with my 2016, the trans does not bother me that much. The truck runs very good if you
put your foot in it a little bit, but I'm used to revving engines though. My other car is an s2000 which revs to
9000 rpms. I did take it to have the rear diff leak fixed with the recall and had them check the trans fluid level.
If something goes wrong now at least I have it in writing they checked it, whether they did or not. Having been
in the auto business for 20 plus years I have learned that most cars have their own issues. Enjoy the truck and drive
    it like you stole it!
