Oh, BTW does your A/C work? Do you use it often? Could be the a/c clutch seizing? When you piece together the ends of the broken belt (if possible) can you see any weird scratches? Also can you spin all the rollers that should free spin? and finally maybe do a weekly inspection of the belt with a cell cam and light to see if you can see a weird wear pattern starting. Something is seizing intermittently and killing that belt...also perhaps the power steering belt wheel is on slightly crooked so the belt is rolling over it irregularly...

Ive got no real issues with it. The biggest thing was I wanted off the ground . We camp in nasty weather all the time and I was tired of waking up in a pond.

I've been an avid camper all my life. Even into my adult life I pack tented for all my big fishing trips. Whenever we can we use the RTT and it's worked great . We probably camped at least 2-3 weekends this year where it rained 100% of the time, and still had a blast.

I'd suggest looking used if you can. Lots of people who don't camp get these thinking it's going to be a portable version of their mattress at home, which just isn't the case. That results in a pretty good second hand price.

Best benefits for me are; Weatherproof. Easy to set up in the dark. Off ground level for flooding.

Times I use my tend; deep wooded fishing trips, hiking.

I use the RTT anytime I can.

Depends, I made it a mile or so without the belt on my Olds Achieva..could have just turned the heat on if I had to.

This. I'd be more likely to suspect the main pulley if just firing a guess, only because I've heard of it happening before. I like the AC clutch idea as well.

Enjoy! My buddy lives and works in big sky, out by West Yellowstone. If your a skier or snowboarder, check it out. Went last year and it was the best riding I have ever done. If I could, I’d live out west.

I can pack an air mattress and pump it up from the outlet in bed and be really comfy. What should someone expect to pay from the used to new range?
    Thanks

I was tempted to get an RTT, but for the $$ I just didn't see it being an advantage. So I cheated and went with the fiberglass cap/platform route. No setup or takedown, just roll up and park, and as long as you're mostly level you're good to go. Plus the racks give a tie-down point for tarps if it's going to be a rainy weekend.

Of course sometimes the campsite is just on too much of a slope and you've got to improvise...

Yeah I have also been camping most of my life at least a few weekends a year. Sounds similar to you, mostly fishing trips and such. I have a nice ground tent but same issues, waking up in a puddle is a pain in the ass when you plan to fish all weekend long. I had a trip to the Farmington this year that was rain from the time we arrived to the time we left. I like the approach to being off the ground on a smooth surface. I have a decent inflatable sleeping pad, I am not looking for the Hilton of camping haha. Also the lady would be much happier in an RTT. She's a trooper for some of these rain trips lately

4Runner problems. I toyed with the idea of a sleeping platform but it eats up so much of your storage area and I need the space for camp supplies and fishing/hunting gear. I am really thinking about a RTT trailer build for the future. Nothing crazy (yeah right, we all know how that plan works) but I could set up, unhitch and have camp set for the weekend/week.

Yeah, the downside with the platform is that you have less headroom, and if you tie anything to the truck you've got to untie it before you can go anywhere. But usually we use it like we're overlanding; camp one night and move on. Or like a base camp, where we explore on foot all day and only really come back to the campsite to sleep.

We will be by the north gate, any good places to ski/board? I know there are a ton but I have no idea out there, I'm still searching for random things on google to do. We are going to spend a day skiing tho so any tips you have would be great.

Part of me would love to live out west, but I'm not sure if I would want to full time. It has a different feel, but maybe that's just because I'm not used to it.

For a RTT I'd shoot for at least $300 right off the top. Something in the $1400 id go for $900, and walk away at $1000. Maybe call back in a week or so at $1100 if it was in perfect condition. The thing is they not in high demand. There are always more people that want them then there are people who actually intend on buying them. I saw some this summer sit through June and July .

Yup. Comfort is the biggest thing. Broken bones in my back and pulled my right leg out of my hip. The comfort factor doesn't lie with this body.

It's just another tool really. Like @Noelie84 mentioned, if we need a base camp, sometimes I still use a ground tent for that. Did it a couple of times this year. But it's mostly for other people convenience out if respect if we are in a group. To me it's like making my bed in the morning. 2 pillows and 1 sleeping bag + folding takes me under 3 minutes. Normally I do it with a coffee in hand.

The biggest thing aside from comfort is foul weather. We camp in absolutely everything. My ground tent set up has been a continuous revision since I was 16 and I feel is very well put together. But there's still some weather that pops up in a forecast that might make me question how much I want to do the trip.

The RTT is so sealed, dry, comfortable and easy to put away, weather is a non factor now. I fold it up soaked sometimes and air it out the next day. It gets wet, but not dirty. Zero mold or staining issues.

To me it's never been a RTT vs GT deal. They're both just tools or means of sleeping and keeping as much energy for the next days adventure. I probably have $1400 into a RTT and sleeping bag and I've probably got about $900 into my GT, sleeping Pad, and sleeping bag. In regards to the cost of a RTT I used to piss away more money in snowboarding if I bought all of that stuff at once, and I use this way more.

If anyone is ever on the fence and wants to come check one out in person I'm In southern NH. Can pop it open and you can get a better idea if something like this works for you or if there are better options to fit your lifestyle

If you end up getting a sled to use, you can find some nice backcountry stuff out there without much effort, consindering how much public land is out there. Not sure if they have rules/regs on where you can go with a sled. Most of my time spent there last year was at the resort in Big Sky where my buddy lives and works.

About 7 years ago I was out there in June and did some backcountry hiking/riding and camping off of beartooth pass. Highly reccemended but I assume that beartooth highway is closed for the winter already.

Super jealous. I wanted to get back out there this year, but I don’t think it’s in the cards. If you go backcountry, make sure you know what your getting into. Avalanches are the real deal out there...

I think for a sled we would go on a tour, there is one near by that does 100 miles through the park. We are going to do some hiking, but not sure where yet, avalanches are something I don't consider out here, so will have to keep in mind!! Sounds like its an awesome place, just making me more excited!
