So an AR pistol that is based on the exact same lower receiver as a rifle is still just a pistol, right?

This response is exactly what I'm talking about. There is a gun violence problem in this country. Period. To deny otherwise is sticking your head in the sand. The gun industry is not necessarily the cause of this, but they are who is facilitating the issue through their products, and because of this they have a major issue on their hands.

Instead, every time there is a mass shooting they double-down on the "from my cold, dead hands" bullshit instead of admitting that we should probably do something to keep weapons out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them.

It doesn't matter if the gun industry is the cause of the problem or not, they have a major perception problem, and they do have the power and resources to do something about it, but they refuse to.

And what is the "do something" that you think is lacking? "Do something" is just as bad as saying "double down on from my cold dead hands" because it implies that nothing has been done. How does taking firearms, restricting their access, or making people jump through hundreds of hoops stop a criminal from committing terrible acts with them? Simple, it doesn't.

Had a long response typed out to highlight the equal idiocy of the "Do Something" mentality, and decided against it as it will likely just result in this thread getting locked. If anyone wants to know what I had typed out, I'll be happy to PM it to you.

But we should probably go back to our regularly scheduled program......

We already have a lot of laws in this state, other states, and at the federal level that were created with the intention of limiting gun access for certain types of individuals. Pretty much all of them had to be written by people with limited firearms knowledge because the gun lobby treats any and all gun-related laws as an attempt to outlaw guns entirely. So, rather than working with these lawmakers to craft laws that make sense and actually do something to limit access to the wrong people, we end up with laws with idiotic definitions and tons of loopholes.

Additionally, those same idiotic definitions and loopholes are then exploited by the gun industry to keep selling weapons, rather than taking the approach of "well, if we unilaterally agreed to not sell this particular model/style of weapon in this manner and instead make people buy it in this manner or waiting this amount of time as this law intended, we can probably avoid additional laws being written to try to fix the loophole."

Instead, they refuse to do anything at all or cooperate in any way, shape, or form. They brought it on themselves.

there are valid points to be made from both sides of this argument, but to say that gun violence is on done by criminals is not exactly accurate. A large portion of mass shooting are done by white guys with no criminal record. They only became a criminal when they shot the first victim. The question is how do we handle this knowing that people with a legal right to purchase and own weapons will commit such violent acts.

This is ABSOLUTELY not the place to drop a political agenda and think that this thread wouldn't respond or get locked/put in timeout. Tread lightly....

I would argue this isn't a political argument, though it can quickly become one if you let it. This is a discussion about a hobby that most of us in this thread participate in (myself included) that is facing a lot of scrutiny right now.

It's no different than a discussion about off road driving harming the environment. There are people who don't understand off roading who want to outlaw it, while those who enjoy getting out doors in their trucks and vehicles don't want that to happen. Same concept.

I currently have a RIGHT to my AR pistol but I should also not have to worry about a disgruntled idiot walking into my sons school and shooting up the place either.

I’m watching the movie Tremors right now and it is very important that we have rights to any and all weapons necessary. 8120752D-5503-4C2C-8E97-71CF44C8817B.jpg

A Lower Receiver is neither a handgun or a long gun when it is sold (assuming just the receiver).

A pistol can not have a stock (except in some cases...broomhandle mauser for example). Technically an arm brace is not a stock. So attaching one (or just a pistol buffer tube) still constitutes a handgun.

Attaching an actual stock makes it a rifle and subject to the normal laws of firearms (16" barrel, overall length, ect, ect).

To go under the 16" barrel rule you have two options...do the pistol route an not have a "stock" or SBR it and have a rifle with a short barrel.

It does get abit weirder at times though. For example if you buy a complete AR RIFLE, it can NEVER go to a pistol without NFA paperwork. If you buy a complete AR PISTOL it can be converted to a rifle and then back to a pistol (but has to meet the rules for being a rifle and being a pistol when configured as such). If you just buy a lower receiver....well its "technically" whatever you build first that it becomes....it build a pistol firs tand its a pistol...build a rifle and its a rifle.

    Isnt the ATF great....
