a ton of folks around here have done the TSB as he laid out in that post linked above, some with OV and some without. do it as directed and no issues. and don't skimp on the cable.

I did the TSB sunday night, had been unable to because of time and was a little leary of bricking it.
Had to have the trickle charger on it, and worked like a charm.

Am I the only one that thinks 1.04R (both 87 and 91) is way too reluctant to upshift from 4th to 5th?

In some cases, I'll be ~3k in 4th and end up having to back so far off the throttle to get it to shift to 5th that I've then slowed down too much to even hold 5th at that speed anymore...

    Nice truck.

    Two things:

    1. Stop rubbing your instrument cluster. Those scratches are horrid.
    2. Stop attempting to troll the denziens of this thread. We know you don't have 1.05, and that you didn't get that mileage (fo real).

    :)

Any time there’s an MPG post, I immediately look at the fuel gauge.

So, if I follow these instructions and install the TSB, will I then be eligible for 1.04R?

I have a 2019, so I can't even roll with 1.04R in the meantime, as 1.05 will be the first/only version that supports 2019.

The pain is real. My dongle is ready, though.

You should consult Dr Wilson if there's pain in your dongle. :rimshot:

Not here, the ONLY problem i have with 1.04r is it shifts into 4th too soon. Holding a gear too long sounds like you are using that "shift sense PRO" add on option?

Nope, no other add-ons. OVTune only, ECT off.

My likes to hang onto 4th too long as well so I've just gotten used to driving it in S-5 all the time and no longer deal with that annoyance.

I think that's a Tacoma thing, not a tune thing. My 2017 did this a ton with the stock tune. It drove me batty, especially when I would crest a moderate hill on the highway, and the damn thing would insist on staying in 4th gear on the descent. Even letting completely off the gas wouldn't make it upshift.

With 1.04 the behavior is less pronounced but does still happen.
