    Yep.
    Has anyone (@gearcruncher :boink:) come across a dimension for the R155F input shaft end, specifically where it mates the pilot bearing? Even the ID of the pilot bearing would work. Can't find anything in the FSM and my google fu is failing me.

    Mine has some obvious, but not terrible wear (@160k) and I'm concerned that it may need to be replaced or sleeved so it mates with the pilot bearing correctly. Should have noticed it earlier, but of course I didn't till after the clutch/flywheel was replaced.

    Grab a new pilot bearing and try slipping it onto the input shaft . Does the pilot bearing wobble when you move it back and fourth ? If yes , the input shaft needs replacement . The only time the pilot bearing is in use is when you have your clutch pedal down . The spinning clutch disc is pulled away from the flywheeel and this is when the pilot bearing begins supporting the spinning clutch disc . You will hear noise when the clutch is pushed down .

    Thanks. You're close, but that's not it. I'm talking about the tip that mates with the pilot bearing. There's nothing about it in the FSM... that I see anyway.

    Good idea, thanks man. Ordered another pilot bearing, should be here Friday. In the meantime I'm going to swing by the local machine shop and see if it's possible to machine the shaft without yanking it out and fab up a little repair sleeve.

    If the shaft has to be replaced, it'll turn into a full rebuild haha... or I'll just find a low mileage one and swap it since the cost won't be much different.

    That was my understanding. The information on Wikipedia says that the R156 had different gearing than the R155. However, the information in the Product Information PDFs online that Toyota publishes list the same gear ratios as the R155, so they're either publishing incorrect data or they intended to change the transmission and then didn't. Wikipedia also lists an R156 and R156F, but the 3rd gen 4-cyl Tacoma is only in 4x4 with the manual.

    Isn't the R156 a 6 speed? If so does it have a deeper first or perhaps a second overdrive? I sometimes wish my R155 had a slightly deeper first but I don't think it has the power for a taller overdrive.

    The auto is a 6spd, but the manual is a 5spd still in 3rd gens.

    Same gearing ratios from what ive seen as well

    I wonder if the wiring/plug for the speed sensor that goes on the trans is the same between the r155 and r156..

    From what I’ve seen it is taller by a bit. 1st is lower by a good amount too. Idk if the numbers on Wikipedia are accurate but they have the gear ratios listed.
