Accident forces need for a rear bumper

Ditch the BSM and buy our high clearance bumper. You know you want to.

But I honestly have a need for BSM...
My good friend is a top of the line auto body specialist and a really good fabricator who installed your sliders on my truck and I'm confident he can devise a way to adjust the BSM mounts to make it work...
Please make one to support it and I'll buy it yesterday...!!

 

The corner pretty much needs to be all plastic. Even the bumpers that support BSM seem to be less than reliable. I don’t really want to make a bumper with plastic on it. Kinda defeats the purpose of a steel bumper.

 

I just got hit and can tell it would be stronger...
Might not be ideal for rock crawling but would suite the needs for a hell of a lot us looking for a solution...
Tube the corners to allow for plastic. I know it can be done and be tastefull and your the man to do it...
So far I have had a lot of feedback from people searching for this solution as we don't want to give up our BSM..

 

I thought about placing the BSM Monitor on the outside of the steel bumper.
You would have to shim to get it aimed/calibrated just right @ a 45 Degree Horizontal Angle.
Maybe fabricate some plastic over the exposed
monitor with glue or screws on the corner of bumper or a bracket underneath the bumper for the BSM.
I'm sure some one will come out with one integrated into the tail lights in the future (waiting).
I have also seen a place that offers the monitors that about the size of quarter (coin) that is aftermarket.
Do not know if they are compatible with the Tacoma to drill a hole in the bumper to place those.
Just some ideas, or like I mentioned in another post, just do away with BSM and buy a Fab Four or Mobtown
Heavy Duty Steel Bumper. Some Dumb Ass Knucklehead eventually backs/bumps into my rear bumper
with out paying attention and doesn't give a shit.

 

i know this may be slightly off topic, but do you guys know if i make a home made aluminum tubing front bumper, will it affect airbag reliability?

Can't say for sure but I have an aluminum front bumper but haven't tested that part yet...lol

I'm not sure of the force needed to set one off but I hit a trailer hitch and creamed my stock front bumper so that's why I had the aluminum one made.
So whether you make it out of steel or aluminum as long as you build it stout it should be fine.

 

i hit a dog a few days ago and it fucked quite a bit up on the bumper, grill, headlight, and fender, considering it was a just a boxer and at 10ish mph. (dont worry dog is okay and no broken bones)

i definitely want to upgrade from stock bumper because i dont love to looks of them on the second gens, and a tube/hybrid would be sweet but just trying to figure out if i should make it from alum or steel. i think im going to do alum but sorting it all out now. should be interesting!

 

I would go with steel, logic tells me it is stronger and more protection than aluminum.

 

yes thats very true and itd be better in most cases, but im not someone whos offroading all the time, id rather have the lighter weight aluminum.

Al is still better than plastic!
