I assume that if I cut the lug off of my OEM positive battery cable and replace it with a ring terminal, it will be too short for use with military terminals.

I’m going to just buy a slightly longer cable instead. For anyone who’s done this before, do you know exactly how long it should be?
I plan to pack it back into the stock split loom, etc.

    Thanks in advance

    It might be too short.

I cut mine off and replaced it with a lug and it’s OK though I’d like a little more slack

Just did this upgrade. If you are using a group 31 battery, the positive cable will be to short AS WELL AS the positive cable running to/from the fuse box. I can measure lengths if you need me to.

 I also want to put new battery cables in. I was thinking of putting heat shield on them too.

You’d be doing me a big favor. Yes please!

Also, what gauge wire to the fuse box?
The negative cables will be ok?

IIRC, one of the members here was selling a cable kit that both lengthened and upgraded the positive and negative leads. Maybe check the for sale forums; I had it bookmarked but can't find it right now.

    Got the measurements today.

These lengths are for the OEM battery wiring and are measured from end to end OF THE TERMINALS, not the actual wire itself.
Positive Cable (to starter): 37" 4GA
Positive Cable (battery to fuse box): ~15" 4GA
Positive Cable (alternator to fuse box) ~20" 4GA
Negative Cable (to transmission housing): 54.5" 4GA

I used the following WIRE lengths for my own harness upgrade.
    Pos to starter: 40" 1GA
Pos to fuse box: 18" 2GA
Alternator to fuse box: 20" 2GA
    Neg to trans: 56" 1GA
    Neg to frame: 3.5" 1GA
Alternator body to frame: 5" 1GA

And some pictures. Everything was wired with motorsport battery cable, terminated with copper (tinned) lugs, and wrapped with DR-25 motorsport/mil-spec heat shrink. If its worth doing, its worth over-doing.

I did not as they would not fit in the plastic channel (due to the increased wire size) and the OEM looming is dog shit. There isnt really anything for them to get caught or pulled on so I just zip-tied them neatly.

Hey guys. And thanks So much @C7mb . Was wondering if i could ask some questions about the size of the negative ground to chassis cable and what size ring terminal for it as I am going to custom Order a cable. I have the SDHQ terminals that just came In and am wondering what size terminal was that stock ground cable connection- 5/16” or 3/8”? I think the stock wire is 6 ga ? Would it be alright to go with 4 gauge or 2? I’m not doing the big 3 yet just curious if it’s ok to be slightly off from stock size as long as not smaller.
