My local Toyota dealer doesn't do appointments for oil changes, only actual service items. I've learned to be parked at their garage door 30 min before they open on Saturday mornings. I'm consistently one of the first 2 or 3 people in. I have a couple good cups of coffee in their lobby, watch some HGTV on their big screen and before I know it they're done. Bring it in an hour later and my wait would be triple or more.

Sorry, can't support you on this one, OP. Of course, I use a small town dealer and make an appointment a few days before. I'm usually in and out, even during mid-days, in under 90 minutes, if that. Oil Change, filters, inspection, and sometimes tire rotation.

That’s why I schedule mine for buttcrack of dawn Saturday morning. I throw my bike in the back and ride it home. Later in the day at my convenience I make my way back and pick up the truck. I never sit around and wait.

Well, for what it's worth, my dealership has fast wifi, hot coffee, and relatively fresh donuts every morning. So I can sit on their comfy couch with my laptop and work in relative peace and quiet. And if I need to go home they call me an Uber. Who cares if it takes 3 hours to change my oil? Sometimes I want to go there and pretend to be waiting for sevice.

    Cheaper than Starbucks.

I've really thought about stopping by for a cup of coffee before... just not ballzy enough to do it...

Haha. Go into the showroom, look at the sticker on the display Tacoma (always an offroad or a Pro), and grab some refreshments. You deserve it.

Beaver Toyota in Saint Augustine usually has fresh sandwiches for lunch in addition to great coffee and donuts. Easy on-line appointments too.

    No problem here.

I never have to wait more than 45 minutes for routine service. They have free sodas, sweet tea, and ICEE, and popcorn. I usually walk around the lot while waiting to pass the time. I will usually have to tell two salesmen I am just killing time, then after that I am free to roam without any others stalking me.
Now, if you schedule an oil change and when you get there you say oh yea, I also have this issue that needs looked at, then it will take more time because then your vehicle has to go to another tech for the surprise issue, and other people already have that tech tied up. So you have to wait till there is an opening. So, to make your wait less painful, let them know upfront what you need checked out.

What’s the main problem here? We don’t like to wait at the dealer so when we do go we want to do everything at once. Oil change, TSB flash, window seal replacement, new battery. Then we complain it takes half the day but in reality we combined 4 one hour visits into 1 three hour visit.

But understanding why it sucks doesn’t make it suck less.

Y'all did it. You did it masterfully. Some trolled me. Some told the story of how they deal with the problem Others told about their awesome dealerships, and before I knew it, 90 minutes had passed, and they were done changing the oil, and washing the truck.

here on maui there are booked 2 months out for oil change and when you do get an appointment it is min 90 minutes. worst part is you pull in, wait in line with your truck, they write it up and pull it to the back where they park it against a fence where it sits for 1 hour. like you say would rather do something else with my time. oh for me it is a 45min drive to the dealer. all in all it is a half day ordeal.

Make sure they put the cap back on and tightened down the skid plate.
