Better mpg’s more hp, 10 speed auto! Why couldn’t Toyota do that! Would like to at least test drive one. Would be worried about reliability though!

the old rangers were pretty reliable considering American manufacturers back then all kind of stunk when it came to quality.

Not gonna lie. If the new ranger was out when I got my Tacoma, I would have got it instead.

With luck if the ranger does well toyota may take some steps in a better direction with performance

That being said hell no I wouldn't

Both of my dad's f250s had numerous issues the dealer would fight us tooth and nail to fix and his f150 he bought new turned out to be a lemon

We've had like 4 Toyotas since then including a Highlander, a Sequoia, a Tundra and my taco and the worst issue was with the transmission on the Sequoia at almost 200k miles

    Gotta love that reliability

2 less cylinders. Talk about maxing out an engine for reduced longevity.
Plus it looks too 'smooth'. Close to a Ridgeline.
And the big issue, it's a :angrygirl: FORD. :annoyed:

    That's not a fair question.

1st of all, the 3rd gen debuted over 3 years ago...which means it was penned way before that.

The more appropriate question would be..."What will Toyota’s response be?" or "Do you think Toyota will follow in the same direction with the next Taco?"

To answer those questions....if the Ranger sells....maybe. If it doesn't....probably more of the same.

Nope. I will admit there's a few things I like about the new Ranger where they have an edge, but just not interested. It won't be long till we start seeing them in every muni and private fleet like the old Ranger.

Old playbook habits are tough for Ford and GM to break.

Does it have twin I-beam suspension?
    If so, hell yeah.

If I could get every option my Tacoma has for around $32,000 then maybe. Unfortunately to match my TRD OR M/T the price for the Ranger A/T is unfortunately over 40k. Ouch. Maybe someone can correct me if this is wrong, but wouldn't the Ranger need 33" inch tires and a mild lift to match the TRD offroad's clearance and approach angle out of the factory?

Prior to my Taco, I drove a '94 Mazda B4000(Same as a Ford Ranger). That truck had about 285K miles on it and was a great truck. I decided to start looking for another truck. I found a really nice '04 Ranger with the 4.0L OHC. I considered buying it. Then I researched what a screwy engine that OHC 4.0L is. The left cam is driven off the front of the motor, and the right cam is driven off the back of the motor. They are notorious for chain and chain guide problems and the motor has to come out to work on the right chain. I told the lady, "Sorry, I wouldn't want that truck if it was free. I don't need that kind of headache." Now, maybe Ford has changed their engineering ways, but the way I see it, it's not worth the gamble.
