I learned about GERDS while waiting on the surgeon to tell me I'm cleared. There was a diagram of something unsettling that I blocked out and a poster about GERDS. Pregnant people get it.

Happy early birthday my man. I found running 4-6 miles 3 times a week helps keep me in decent shape for 33, though I loathe every mile. Good luck at GI, after my bad moto crash I had both an endoscopy and colonscopy at the ripe age of 31 lol. Not a fan of the GI doc.

I got it after starting my current job at 33, so yeah, stress. I currently take over-the-counter omeprazole (generic for Prilosec). It works very well, but if I stop taking it for a week or more it flares up again.

Getting old sucks. Another year and I won't be able to participate in this thread :(

Edit:. Oh, and happy birthday @ChadsPride !

Thanks for the replies everybody. Is it any sign if this started when I got married?

I was on that for a while, but it stopped working for me. Switched over to Pantoprazole 40mg, which seemed to do the trick. I've had bad acid reflux since I was a kid.

I'm sure the 40's thread is pretty much the same as the 30's but instead of complaining about not being in your 20's it will be not being in your 30's.

Have started developing Acid Reflux over the past couple years. Think most of it is due to the increase of beer I started drinking on top of getting older. Now more foods seem to agitate it. Especially tomato based like pasta sauce and pizza. I've done a good job on cutting back the beer's and trying to eat semi better. I don't take it every day but if I feel like I'm going to have a few drinks or eat something unhealthy I about have to take some medicine or i'll wake up in the middle of the night with my throat on fire coughing. Sucks getting older.

I don't drink, smoke, or eat spicy food. I do drink coffee every day though. But if I get a call from work that spikes my anxiety, I feel it start burning

I eat spicy food, drink hard liquor (Scotch is a favorite) and beer, and I have a cup or two of coffee every morning. No heartburn for this boy :D

Of course, I'm also not running into the back and joint problems that a lot of the people I went to high school seem to be getting, either. The only thing that bothers me occasionally is the knee that I blew out skiing in high school, and that only bothers me if I overwork it (like running the mechanical clutch in the old plow truck during a big snow storm) and isn't a chronic problem.

On the other hand, my eyes have gotten lousy. I had 20/40 in high school and now I'm probably up around 20/100 without my contacts in. And I can't pound the food like I've got a hollow leg any more, either. I used to eat two full plates at thanksgiving, then clean up whatever was left in the serving dishes on the table. An hour later I'd have 4-5 slices of pie. Now I'm good for one plate of food and MAYBE I'll be ready for a slice of pie an hour later, lol.

I got lasik in my late 20s. They said in my 30s my eyes would change and I'd likely need reading glasses. I'm still good so far, but I can feel that my eye muscles get tired doing near to far, far to near

I hear you. I work in public/environmental safety and hazmat-ish type work (i.e. I'm not in PPE, but work closely with fire/hazmat crews during an incident, and stay after the lucky-ducks leave to initiate and oversee cleanup operations, which can be an extended process). My coverage area includes 35 localities, so I am on-call 24/7, and have often been awake 24+ hrs and not eaten or drank anything for 12+ hrs. That's when the heartburn seems to be the absolute worst, on an empty stomach.

I had the same issue where, as soon as I would get a call to respond to an incident, I would get instant heartburn, especially when I've only had an hour or two of sleep beforehand. Doctor prescribed 20 mg of omeprazole (same as over the counter strength) and it has worked since, but only if I take it every day. If not, it will flare up when I get stressed out. Foods/drinks that are high in acid do it too, like tomatoes and citrus.

Lasik is definitely on my Radar in the next year or three. The eye doc says that my prescription has pretty much stabilized over the last few years so I'm probably ready.
