Is the TSB 58-18 or 62-18 temporary

I had my TSB 58-18 done by my dealer yesterday and the truck accelarates like a different truck now. I realize that the computer will relearn how I drive for the next few thousand miles. I’ve got 3200 miles on my 18 Tacoma DCSB TRD OR. I love how responsive it is now. I was told (Facebook Tacomaworld thread) that this is temporary and that it will revert back to sluggish taco in about 2k miles. Is this true? Or is this person just trying to get me to buy OVtune? Just curious, any experiences to prove or disprove this would be appreciated. Thanks.

True, but you can avoid it by driving in S.

I have noticed a bit of reversion after a couple thousand miles after the TSB. Ours has two people driving it so it probably thinks it is learned from a split personality or something. I will say that even though it has reverted a bit it is still better than it was pre TSB.

Mine seemed to revert after about 2k miles. My biggest complaint is that when you accelerate, you push the gas pedal and nothing happens. You push it harder and still nothing. Push it some more and all of a sudden it drops about two or three gears and you jump forward turning about 5k-6k rpm. The TSB originally fixed this for me, but it is now back like the TSB never happened.

Are you talking about driving in S during the learning period? Or driving in S all the time period? Thanks

    All the time.
I had the same issue. After 1k or so the numbness of the throttle was a main issue.
So I reset ECU and since that I'm driving in S
Driveability is consistent. Truck holds 5th and 6th gears very well.
I can do slow acceleration in 5th without dropping to 4th even on incline.
I have driven abot 1,5K in S and somewhat satisfied.
OV tune will be the way to go to overcome limitations of the truck

I have seen some varying reviews of the OVtune

How do you reset the ECU?

Unplug Neg cable on the battery.
Tap a horn, press brake pedal.
Wait 30 min and reconnect the cable.
Truck may drive funny for 100 or so miles.
    That's normal

S all the time for me, with ECT on most of the time. In town where max speed I ever get is 45, I use S4. If I jump on the interstate for a bit to bypass some traffic I bump to S5. For a long haul on the interstate I will use S6 or put it in drive, depends on how I feel. It works great.

But will it reprogram the ecu in that mode?

I can not say for sure, but if I understand correctly, putting it in S mode cancels AI shifting, which is where the learning takes place. S mode all the time may not yield the best gas mileage, but it does make for a fun drive.

Mine is past 2k Miles with 0058. Mine drives the same way after the TSB. Sliders, bumper, lift, 33” tires. Although I didn’t baby the truck after the TSB. I’ve accepted the fact I lost mpg.

I haven’t felt the dead pedal affect trying to pass or enter the highway since the update.

it will not "revert", the ecu will just learn how you drive and potentially seem like its slower. All the benefits of the reflash are still there, better ecu logic.

This seems most realistic to me. My truck drives like a dream 2k past update. I also like to drive in S around town where I do most of my driving.

While I wouldn't say mine has completely reverted to it's pre TSB state, the improvements noticed immediately after the flash have definitely subsided. I still have lag in the throttle, surges between 40-50 mph and an occasional (very slight) surge when turning the wheel at idle. Most of the time I drive around in S4 or S5 and even then it's pretty irritating.

I had 62-18 applied back in July and haven't had a single issue since. The truck drives the same way today as when the TSB was applied.
