What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Most of us already have the factory overhaul and rebuild manual, is this one any better for only $30?

 

one thousand times better than OEM

 

The only reason I need it is because I get soooo many questions on this site about this transmission . If i owned the manual , I would pass it along to help out others when they have issues .
I already own the OEM manual and its not even close to what you get with ATSG

See if you can reference another setup and adjust the Kings for the lift you want before install? It's not impossible to do with them on the truck but it's harder. Will likely need to anyway but you might get lucky

 

Spray all of the bolts and such with a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF a few days before.

Haven’t tried that, usually use PB Blaster. I’ll give that a shot.

 

FWIW I've had a diff drop installed for roughly 90k with no ill effects. About the only thing I haven't had to mess with on my truck. I doubt I need it but I installed it when I was ignorant and haven't cared to do anything about it. If I remember, when I pull my diff to replace my oil pan I'll measure my cv angle and fin gap. Then compare. Idk how removing 2 bolts, sliding spacer in and reinstalling the two bolts is considered trouble. About as easy as it gets really. If your boot fins rub at ride height it's worth a shot to see if they don't with a diff drop in my opinion.

I am right at 105K miles with my diff drop. Seems to be doing fine.

 

When was the last time you looked to see if the sleeves are still vulcanized to the rubber. Could be why your diff seal went out if that thing is flopping around in its bushings

 

Yeah, I took a close look at them. They seem fine.

FWIW, near as I can tell, my driver side seal was leaking due to a huge about of debris on the outer surface of the seal and the inside of the dust shield. I cleaned it all up and found a seal in what appeared to be good shape. So I put it all back together without replacing the seal. That was a couple of weekends ago. No leak so far.

 

Same. Just checked mine today when I took off the skid for some "annual 10lb sledge reforming." No leak after the ~2500 miles down to AZ and CA.

 

I figured this was so but good to hear it.

And I am blaming bullfrog creek for this.

 

Another trick: tighten the bolt just enough to crack it(get it to move)then loosen it.

 

I hit mine with pb blaster a week before, it worked fine.

 

I'm gonna have to fix that taco lean in the rear...its starting to get to me...

The front is fixed with toytec coilovers, one higher than the other but it lvl's out. That rear though...so noticable....

 

For the UCA be sure to throw the slug into the freezer for a few hours before putting it into the spindle. Helped a bit, also I'd use a ball joint press to help get the slug into it.

 

What do you guys recommend for rear shoes and drums? Anything other than OEM? Brembos?

 

I’m using drums from oreillys and I think their brakebest shoes. Seem to work just fine for me.
