iBuddy Seat Cover or Hammock in Access Cab

Hey all -

Taking delivery of a 2019 OR AC in the next few weeks. I am looking for something to put over the rear jump seats for my two 50 lb Boxers. I have read the posts on here about building pet platforms, which seems like a reasonable option.

I ran across this on Amazon and also on some TW posts:

In looking at the reviews, it seems they are all in four door cabs. Has anyone tried this (or something else on the market) in an Access Cab? I just find it hard to believe there isn't something ready made that is a good/custom fit for these trucks. Seems like there are enough of them out there to make it worthwhile.

 

mine is not a Ibuddy but similar hammock style works great with the dogs I didn't build anything underneath just put the seats down and still have room for gear

 

Not much room in the back of an ACCB. Around 12" from the back of my drivers seat to the rear of the cab, with jump seats down. I haven't searched, but I'm guessing the overall lack of room is why you're not turning up much product.

 

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback. I sure hope I can figure a way for them to ride back there or we just made a huge mistake...

 

The conundrum with the hammocks and access cabs: you need the backseats up so the hammock can attach to those rear headrests, but with the seats up there isn't much space for the two dogs and there's no solid continuous platform for the dogs to sit/lay on.

FWIW, this is exactly what led me to a double-cab - I have 3 heelers rummaging around back there. haha Good luck.

Edit - occasionally I have to transport a dog in a large crate, so I'll lay down the backseats to make it more level. I have an old mat - designed for auto mechanics to lay under their vehicles and be more comfortable/off the ground - that I'll lay across the downed seats. If you measure your access cab backseat, you might find one of those to lay across and cover all the "gaps".

You could keep the backseats up, allowing for the hammock to attach, but put this mat underneath, across the seats, so the dogs don't fall down into the gaps/spaces.

 

I hear you and truly appreciate the feedback. Maybe it will have to a homemade platform and no hammock. They won't be as contained but might be the best we can do.

 

What the heck, this makes no sense. No, you put the rear seats down. Put the headrests UP. build a simple platform like I did. Put the hammock in the back. It fits fine.



That being said, my wife is only 5'3 and I'm only 5'7 so our seats are a bit forward and I built the platform to take advantage of that. My dog is 40 lbs. She doesn't need that much room. Your challenge is going to be 2 crazy boxers. haha. I'm surprised you managed to get a pic of them sitting still.

 

As mentioned above, the head rests and seats function independently.
But not much room for two boxers if you need any legroom up front.

 

I'm 6'6" so we know where the front seats have to go. I may be in for more of a challenge than I planned...at least they ride fairly well

 

Dogs fit fine in access cab. Difficulty with Tacoma access cab is no flat floor. Need to add filler for level platform - I carved foam blocks to fit in floor so it was level with storage bins - easy to install/remove as needed but will likely build dropin drawer unit over winter to replace foam blocks. Next option/step if you have no need for jump seats is to pull them out, it frees up valuable inches to remove seats and remove/exchange back wall for flat panel.

 

Thanks for the reassurance. We do not need the full back seat for humans as we're empty nesters. And we needed the 6 ft bed which makes the 4 door into a land yacht (that won't fit well in our garage). I'm optimistic we'll work it out.

 

That is perfect! We have a Brittany (or he has us) and he goes everywhere with us. I need to make exactly what you have here.
