so I shipped my Tacoma overseas to the Middle East (lebanon), and it’s very hard to find OW-20. I’m still going to search more, but just in case I can’t find, what’s a good alternative?

    5W-30 is very common here.

    Thanks.

you should make every effort to find 0W-20 if you want the truck to last.

If you can't find it locally, could you buy it online and have it shipped in? Plenty of engines these days run 0W-20, so it shouldn't have to come from too far away

edit: if you're desperate, concentrate on finding a xW-20 oil.....the "0W" is the winter viscosity spec for colder temperatures.....I'm not familiar with winter in Lebanon but I can't imagine it's real winter. I think the "20" number should be more of your year-round reality

Yeah I’ll try my best. I’m going to check the Toyota dealerships and some off road shops. I see Tacoma’s everywhere but older ones. I still haven’t seen a single third gen.

    Just saw it, and thanks.

Yeah I think I can find 5w20 here. I’m going to drive to Beirut tomorrow and search around. I live all the way up north in the mountains.

Just playing devils advocate.... There are plenty of people on this forum that run 5w-30 (myself included) and have no issues what so ever... Is there a specific reason you are saying he should make every effort to fly in 0W-20

well yeah, it's the spec. That viscosity was chosen to maximize the efficiency and longevity of the engine. By sticking with it, you've got the best chance of keeping the engine going for as long as possible.

Running a 5W-30 all the time, or any higher viscosity oil, is going to put additional (minimal, but real) strain on the motor. You won't see it / notice the difference before a couple hundred thousand miles, so for most vehicles it's irrelevant. Most of us bought our Tacomas for the longevity, so why not give it the best shot at getting there.

If you don’t mind me asking, why? Since the manual only recommends 0w20.

same here.....why's that? I used to work as an engineer for a motor oil additives company, so I'm genuinely interested, not trolling

Ah I see. Hope I didn’t trigger a fight lol. I’m just trying to change my oil when my truck arrives.

It left Houston November 5th. It arrives December 23rd. I just pray customs doesn’t hurt it or steal anything out of it.

Use it. It will be fine.

    That is true

That's sorta kinda accurate, IF the vehicle lives in a cold climate.

There's nothing wrong with the 0-20. But there's nothing wrong with any other oil that the viscosity ranges line up with the ambient temperature ranges.
0-20 is kinda new to most of the public. All those 4-500k Tacomas got there on something else.

Hah! I wish. Shipping things here is very difficult. Our infrastructure is horrible.
