For the life of me I am unsure why someone would mess with their drum breaks on a new truck.

Don't crack that brake line open that will put air in lines. Open the Reservoir cap and squeeze the cylinder back. If you don't want to have to bleed brakes.

Not to highjack the thread but do these drum brakes cause any issues? The rear brakes apparently froze up while pulling out of the parking lot after the car sat for 10 hours today. The weather dropped below freezing with some snow while at work and I assume the pads froze to the wheel drum???? I have a 6spd so the truck kept stalling until I put it in 4WD and repeatedly launched the truck back and forth until they finally released??? Can this still happen with today's drum brakes? I'm aware there is a recall for the master cylinder but this seems totally unrelated.

    Sorry for the late reply......

    YOU DID AWESOME!

Don't let folks dissuade you from working on or tweaking your truck! Enjoy that trip you are going on and as some have said....BUY THAT GF something NICE!!!!!

And most of us have been there with getting in over our heads. I did it before deploying in '93 with my Bronco....had parts of the engine all over the floor and thankfully my neighbor was kind enough to slap me upside the head and help me get it all back together!

    :)

Sorry! I'm too lazy at the moment to google Prius sales. Given the number that I see, they might out sell that Taco.

I agree, they can pull out some neat stuff.

Myself, I would not mind a cheap Tesla or a 4x4 equipment someday. The idea (and control) of one pedal driving has appeal if I have to give up MTs.

We had a drastic temp drop. Just had new tires put on 60 days ago. Checked the air pressure the week I had tires put on leveled the air at 30lbs, normally have around 33lbs. Doing monthly service to truck after temp drop my air in every tire had dropped to 25lbs. Call me crazy.

If you were getting dirt and or silt in the drums, might’ve been worth a trip to the local auto parts to get the drums turned. I’m OCD like that, pretty much always get the rotors or drums turned if I do the breaks. Of course it’s also a good reason not to do them. You save money doing it BUT I would rather not deal with it.

Big difference in knowing how to do something vs wanting to!

I was 15 or 16... 80 full size Chevy, my first car. Replaced the clutch, rebuilt the starter and alternator that year. When the ac generator seized, fixed it by cutting the belt off.. Miss how easy vehicles were to work on!

To this day I still buy a Chiltons for every vehicle.

    Totally disagree!

Growing up in the days prior to computers (don't hate my TRS-80) but folks learned from neighbors and friends. That was it....or they learned what worked or what didn't.

YES...the OP could have gone about it another way but to be honest, he asked for help and (Fast forward to the digital age), he did a pretty damn good job of illustrating his issue and he now has it fixed.

The advice provided is SOLID...but IMO ... it is a nice change of pace to see someone doing something (not my way of doing things) but simply attempting something and then discovering that he was over his head so to speak.

I applaud everyone here for helping him. I would want the same support when I get in a bind.

    Just my 2.5 cents......

Noted.... However, you have probably been in a situation where you needed a bit of advice. Been there done that....we cannot change when he posted with his questions at all can we?

He reached out for support and I think folks did a stand-up job of helping him!

    OUT!
