Looking for some commentary from those of you with 3rd gens over 100k. Just wondering if any of those here have had any major or drive train issues in the longer haul. My truck has 10,000 miles on it and for the last 5,000 I feel like the transmission or torque converter is about to burn up. I have legitimate fear that it's going to happen while driving down the road every time I get behind the wheel.

This is my first Tacoma and my first Toyota. I bought it because of the name and its reputation. It looks like the 3rd gens still have the same high resale value that they always have, which is good. But maybe not enough have gotten in to higher mileage for anyone to realize that the Tacoma reputation went bye bye with the gen 3. Or maybe it has not...

Drive line vibrations is the biggest thing. Clunks. Slipping. My dealership has looked at it 5 times. All they ever did was the computer updates. A Toyota direct tech looked at it and said it was all normal. Still in the process of getting Toyota in to arbitration for lemon.

22re was a great motor. Ate head gaskets though.

Yes. I felt absolutely no difference.

They didn't put the sticker on. I had to ask them about that the following week. They didn't document 3/5 of the times they looked at it. Which I contacted Toyota about as well....

Ever heard of the 2.7, 4.7, and 4.0? All extremely reliable high mileage motors.

Try running with ECT power on, it may feel like that for a bit. I live by the transmission plant for the 3rd gens. Those boys take great pride in what they do. Also my 2nd Tacoma and tbh all of them feel that way till 30k miles.

.....3.4,5.7..we can go on....what a terrible comment haha. I had a (still have in family 22re motor pickup) but also had a 3.4 no issues and a 4.7, no issues and you can regularly find these trucks with 300k plus. As far as OPs question, any SINGLE vehicle may have it's quirks, but there are several with over 100k now and many that think it's doing great. The 2016 had some kinks to work out, but Toyota has seemed to rectify the issues. I don't have 100k, but I have about 30k on my 2017 and not one single concern or issue. (besides simply wanting more power, which was the same case with all other Toyotas) keep an eye on it, don't be afraid to take it to the dealer and if it hasn't failed you, it hasn't failed you

Because Toyota has a legacy of producing tough, reliable, and dependable engines. I have a 1st Gen Taco (2.7) with 250K trouble free miles, and a 2nd Gen with about 45K. As long as consumers do their part with regular maintenance Tacos will easily hit 100K.

Started having transmission issues around 99k miles, but it was my fault for neglecting to get it serviced at the recommended time. Had the dealer flush it and fill with new fluid and it’s been fine ever since. The update also helped a bunch, I had all the typical issues people complain about and they have all been fixed with the service and update.

My point was that Toyota has produced many highly reliable vehicles over the years. Some far better than the 22re. I think everyone has an expectation that the Tacoma is some sort of luxury vehicle and should behave as such. Yes it has its quirks but overall it’s a good truck

You should ask to test drive another 3rd gen at the dealership. Maybe that's just how they drive.

My first gen went over 400k on a 2.7 and ran perfect when I sold it. The engine was never once opened up.

Had another with a 3.4. Same story there

@whitedlite is probably being sarcastic saying no good engines were ever made after 22re. Chill out dudes
