I was typing that before you said that. Also would still need to do that regardless. Putting a engine from the 60's is easier yes but gives you more headaches else where.

There's a reason why people put LS engines in things lol. I just wanted to be an odd ball and go a different route.

Honestly I understand the desire for more power. With 31s, armor, cooler full of food, camping gear, recovery gear, etc the truck is a pig

True, but if I wanted to drive something fast and powerful on the roads, I'd buy a sports car.

The truck does plenty fine in the dirt.

I would argue the only reason the LS engines are so easy to install into things are because of the aftermarket support. Ignition wise, they are pretty complicated however plenty of manufactures offer plug and play kits for the ignition module and drive by wire units. Buy a 4.7 if you want something basic.

Granted you could get an LS1 throttle body and so some programming on a factory LS computer but most people who do the swap want the big power associated with it.

I would say it does OK offroad. I would definitely appreciate a crawl box or deeper gears because there are times where I can't crawl as slow as I'd like

Getting there also kind of sucks because it's a pig on Mountain passes but that's life in the Rockies for ya

Oh sure. I won't deny that there are times I wish I had some more power, but not enough that I am willing to drop an LS in there. I get bad enough gas mileage as it is, and I don't even have 33's yet, lol...

But you hit the nail on the head with the gearing. It's all about proper gearing. Throwing a massive V8 and your problem just allows you to get kinda lazy with the gearing.

Personally, I'd rather have the tranny from my '17 4Runner (5 speed auto with manual override) than a V8. I could do a conventional 5 speed manual, but I'm lazy, and prefer an auto for my driving style.
