2019 - Side Steps

I purchased a 2019 taco and am looking at adding side steps for the lady (no need for sliders). I really like the OEM 5" black oval because the pictures I've seen show them hugging the frame (not too low or too far out) but they are double the price of some of the after market ones. I'm also deciding between the 5" and 4", does the 5" look too big on a Tacoma? I'm looking at some of the below links, does anyone have any recommendations? I think I've ruled out the 3" and predator steps as well.

Should I shell out for the OEM ones?

I'm happy with the 5" OEM ones, I actually wish they were just a tad lower and stuck out more but they look really good on the truck.

 

Up close and hugging the frame means they don't really function well as a step to help someone get up into the cab. I put 4" black oval Steelcraft steps on mine because they were a little lower and more offset than the OEM chrome steps. Much more functional as a step.

 

Thanks both of you for the feedback! I think you're right about the height. I think I've narrowed it down between these two now, just a difference in coating.

Most bars on these trucks are not very functional. Hoop steps give a little more functionality.
So far I've been happy with these N-Fab Podium steps. They come is stainless and textured black powdercoat over stainless.

Thanks itsnotatoy, that's helpful. It looks like you were in the same spot deciding between the TAC aftermarket and OEM. You went with the OEM right? Was it worth the extra money? Any complaints? What made you go with OEM over the TAC?

 

I really like the look of the oem steps. They work but take a little adjustment. Now that I have and them a few weeks I have learned how to get in and out using the step. I was used to not having a step so it took some getting used to. I think the Lund steps that I posted in the other thread are very similar. Overall I am happy with them.

 

I agree with this guy. Oval steps are to high. My last Tacoma came with them and I switched them to the Nfab steps.

 

Just got a 2019 with the oval tube steps and not sure if i love em.
The idea of them is great and they sit high and tight to the body, so they look decent, but there in lies the issue for me.

They are so close to the body and the roofline of the truck is so low, that if you use the step to get in you have to watch your head/shoulders so you dont smack on the way in.
It’s almost easier to not use the step at all when getting in.

Will see how i feel after I lift it, but for now they are a toss up for me.

 

Check out predator steps, I think that’s what I will add next year...

 

Heads up if you buy Lund black oval steps. The powder coat on my f150 failed after one winter of use. At first I thought it was a scratch, but both steps started having long chunks of coating coming off in random spots. Lund warrantied them and I didn't have to send anything back. The new ones seem to be holding up fine

Go Westin. They look awesome and are actually useful too!

 

Oem quality is great too - aluminum cast ones are great!

 

If you were in LA I'd sell you my OEM ovals for $125.

If you using OEM front mudguards, be aware that some nerf bars may not fit.
