Is it possibly to get an LS swap registered in Cali? or do you have to get one of those special red/green off road tags? I thought I remember something about ok to swap in newer motors but not older but not sure about different brands.

But then again some SMOG techs would probably pass it as long as it has a plastic toyota cover..

Check out BAR web site there is rules to doing it. Lot of hoops to jump through but it can be done. I met a guy who did it with a Chevy luv pick up. Thing was fast and he got pulled over everytime he passed a cop. But it was legal. And he said it was not worth the trouble for a DD. He did it and it became his 1/4 mile car

The basic answer is yes. It has to be an engine newer than the model year of the vehicle. So if your truck is an 05, it has to be 05 or newer, with all the emission equipment from the donor vehicle. Then you have to have it inspected and pass the inspection.

A little thing I learned from a smog buddy recently. Let's say you have a 4 cyl taco but you want the 6 cyl that was offered with that model. If it was offered with your model and you swap all the smog equipment and make it like it came from the factory with the 6 cyl, you dont have to have it refed. At least that's what he said. I thought that was pretty nifty.

 

I did an engine swap in a civic back in the day. shit was a bitch but I had it BAR'd.



And I hid a few sensors. electrical tape and wire loom work wonders. haha

In other news, anyone have a 2nd gen tacoma axle laying around. I snapped off the hard tube drivers side brake line and need a new one. Its the one attached to the axle, about a foot and a half long.

 

I think if I swapped my car it would have been easier. My car has been down since May or June.

I guess it sounds cool though...
