    Hey Guys,

I’m sure the majority of you are aware of this, sometimes when you cold start the engine you get a loud noise coming from the engine until it’s heated up to operating temperature. I’ve read about it and most people have dismissed it saying it won’t do any harm and it’s normal. It’s a painful noise to hear from an engine, I read something about piston slap and valve train. Is there any way to remedy this noise? Would a block heater help?

    Thank you for reading

I wouldnt call the piston slap loud, more like a ticking. Is that the noise you are talking about?

I’ve also asked this question and was told it’s the VVT-I warming up. It’s so loud when it’s cold that it sounds like a valve is going bad or something, right?

probably cause your valve shims are too tight and your engine is going to explode

tight = quiet and shims cant be tight, only clearance can

oh so what you meant is "your valve clearance is to tight" and as I said, tight valves (min/no clearance) are quiet.

oh alright, i dont believe these motors have shims either, you have to order the bucket in specific thickness as the bucket is the shim. . lol

well the shim is set inside the bucket so you could technically still argue that is has shims, no?

when you call it a "shim" you give it Independence and after that it starts thinking it can vote and how it wants equality etc.. slippery slope
