@HolyHandGrenade I never thought there was a right way and a wrong way to build/weld a project.. I personally never attempted one yet at the time thinking this. But 5 years ago I was following @loco build thread and on his second gen he made a DIY Jerry can holder, simply welded angle iron together without miters. He posted the finished pic and he said his welding friends were ragging on him for it.. He rebuilt a new one with miters. I learned that angle cuts, miters, coping, fish mouths, etc are all apart of welding. Since than I noticed it on all the welding projects I saw. They do this to avoid open pipe and or avoid adding fill plate plugs.

Ackchooly a cut in a solid piece of material that is put back together creates a joint. Joints add weak points (no not those joints @V5ioV ). A weld can be stronger than the material but the joint can still fail around the weld if too much stress is applied. The weld leaves a very smal width margin to be stronger than the material.

So on paper @HolyHandGrenade should just start running welds on his garage floor like @cynicalrider ‘s 3D printer.

Saw a bridge built in Oz that was done with two robotic welders. Was basically just tack welds one on top of another.

Mitered joints have more inches of weld. Plus the stress across the weld is angular vs straight. Depending on the load path, it will be equal to or stronger.

I've been wondering, how are you going to cut the tube to mesh it to the plate?

I think you should miter it somehow.

Me personally? I’d cut it into ten pieces. Then I’d stitch it back together, leaving gaps to plate over after.

It’s really the only logical way to do it.

Sorry been at work too busy to check here.

    LMFAO!

These photochops remind me of namyos photochop your head thread.

Just wanted to quote this so people think I had something to say about it. I think Miter looks better is all. All the cuts on my trailer are miter but i just did it so I didn’t have to plate off all the open ends.
