Actually not a bad state to live in other than the liquor laws. We have mountains and beaches. It's colder to our North and South of us can have hot summers.
And Forbes rated North Carolina best state for business 2018.

Bought a number of bottles for friends, neighbors, family, etc. today. My go-to store has 4 upcoming raffles, starting this Saturday. Every $25 spent gets you a ticket. This Saturday there is a George T Stagg, Rock Hill Farms, Yamazaki 12, and Midwinter Nights Dram. Not sure what is coming in the next 3, but I have a feeling a Pappy will make an appearance. There is more BTAC stuff, for sure.

I also bought, for myself, a bottle of Old Forester 1920. I've heard great things, but can't say I've had it myself. Anyone here?

Tonight I'm headed to another raffle. No purchase necessary, one entry per person. All they've announced is that they'll have an Old Rip Van Winkle, a Van Winkle Lot B, and some Blanton's & Eagle Rare.

    Wish me luck!

Good luck! I'm still on the hunt for Old Ezra barrel strength. Can't find a bottle within a hundred miles...

Haven't had the 1920, but I really enjoyed the Old Forester 1897 (Bottled in Bond). Forester's is pretty solid, even the classic was good (IMO).

The good luck you sent my way was fruitful! I got selected for a bottle of ORVW 10!

For all of my failure to win any drawings for a good portion of my time on this rock, I have been fortunate to win ORVW two years in a row. I'm in a bunch of different lotteries to up my chances, but I have beaten the odds the last two years.

Lots of drama at this drawing, though. I'll give the story later (worth telling).

Got a bottle of High West American Prairie Bourbon last week for $25 on sale. Very much enjoying it! Had Campfire at a restaurant butt didn't want to go $70 for a bottle..

I've never owned a bottle of GTS, but I'd really love to at some point. If I get one, you ought to head on down for a pour ;). By volume, I drink plenty of whiskey, but as a percentage of what I own, I drink very little. The really good stuff is best enjoyed with friends. I'll drink the readily available $20-40 all day long. The more expensive or more limited stuff is almost exclusively opened in the company of others.

As for the ORVW. I have a few pours of last year's left, but a buddy of mine and I DEFINITELY enjoyed it. We have a standing agreement that if either of us happens across any of the Van Winkles, we get together and drink them. Depending on the specific expression, the fanfare, festivities, and menu go up in what we'll call 'sophistication'.

This is from last year's (we cracked it open on St. Patty's weekend).

Saw a few interesting bottles at Total Wine today:

Passed on those, but behind the counter in their secret hiding spot they had this one. I pulled the trigger on it and while it's out of my price comfort zone, I said Fuck It!, Merry Christmas too me!
