TURBOS: Does anyone have any information or knowledge about turbocharging the 1GR-FE?

Firstly, I know you can buy a Magnuson Supercharger and TRD used to offer it for the Tacoma 1 GR-FE....BUT I am interested in turbos more so than superchargers. Has anyone ever custom installed a turbo on their 2nd gen Tacoma? Or does anyone know anything about this?

For the sake of clarity, I don't plan on doing this really...Depending on the answers I get haha. But if I were to install a turbo, it would be relatively low boost, with efficiency in mind more so than raw performance.

I think the 1 GR-FE in the 2nd gen Tacomas is plenty powerful, however I do think it could benefit from a smallish turbo to maybe help it out with low end torque and acceleration/possibly gas mileage.

    Any thoughts?

The biggest issue is lack of tuneability. Its not like a GM computer that you can plug in and do whatever you want. Its taken essentially 2 decades for someone (OVTune) to be able to crack the toyota computers and its still no where near as easy to tune as a GM LS product.

A lil turbo on the 1GR would be bitchin thats for sure. 10ish PSI of boost. mmmm boooooooooost

Curious as well. If those nitwits at Ford can twin turbo charge a 3.5 weakoboost then why the hell cant I put twins on my 4.0

Yes it can. My last highest dyno, before the metamorphosis, was 475whp & 549wtq.

My frame still doesn't have OEM the engine mount gussets either.

Just finished with my rebuild. 6psi currently, tuned in flawlessly. Time to up it to 15.

    Currently feels around 400 whp.
