LC Engineering Header and have an exhaust shop put on a dynomax super turbo muffler. It is not too loud but adds a bunch of power. Also a new intake helps alot.

Don't waste your money on a cat back exhaust. It is the same thing as replacing the muffler. The pipes are the same as factory and is just a waste of money.

Nice thing was I got the truck for $4000
If you want sound go with a Flowmaster 40 Series muffler. I have that on my 4 banger and I really like the sound it puts out.

magnaflow makes a solid muffler. i have one on my 2.4L and it sound really deep, not a loud winey sound like i hear from some exhausts. many people mistake mine for a v6 even. noticed a difference in power too but i also did a k&n intake setup aswell. You should look into replacing you intake filter too

i like my flowmaster 40 a lot, good deep sound. But if i was to do it again i would try out the dynomax super turbo or a magnaflow for performance gains but i do love the sound of my current flowmaster so idk

As an official old fart I kinda like the stock exhaust. From what I've been able to gather Toyota has done a good job with the original design and the aftermarket exhaust doesn't add any real power until you are really winding out the 4 cylinder motor.

Since I rarely take my motor higher than 4000 rpm I don't benefit from the extra power. Since the aftermarket exhaust would do nothing but make the truck louder I'd rather spend my money on something more productive, like beer.

me too. only mod that i am going to do with stuff like that is the secondary air filter removal. id rather spend the money on tint or better speakers or a tonneau haha

Toyota put the secondary air filter there for a purpose. Since, again, the effect of removing it is only at the highest RPMs I must ask, again, why bother? Save your excercise for lifting more beer.

I agree with you on both points about leaving the 4-banger the way Toyota made it. If and when I want a sweet sounding vehicle it will be a Z06 Corvette.

Notice we are both old guys and drive basic mechanically stock 2wd Tacomas.

Which muffler did you use on the 6? Offsets and pipe sizes? Same pipes on the 4cyl, I'm looking for one.
    Any change in mpg?
