Yes it is possible to make them CA legal. My friend who did the LS swap from 2002 Chevy Tahoe to his jeep was able to make CA legal and got stickers and everything and drives it daily. Main problem was routing the exhaust system. They wanted it in same configuration as the original vehicle and you have to make sure computer isn't throwing any codes. Other than that, it wasn't that hard.

 

It is. It just has to be the same or newer model year. So you could ls swap your truck, but it has to be 04 or newer with all the emissions stuffs

 

I'm still trying to find out if its "Midsize pickup" or just "pick ups" in general. If its the second, you can swap in any truck engine your year or newer. If it must be the same size truck, then its you know, Tacoma/Colorado/Ranger/Canyon, which I think are all 4 liter or V6 so I'm kinda boned. I'm looking into either a Tundra engine swap, or boring out and stroking the 4.0 with a Snakebite upgrade to the TRD blower, along with upgraded internals and such. Should put me on par with a good LS.

 

Isn't the general classification "light truck" and Chevy 1500s fall in that category too?

Yeah if the 1500 is classified as a Light truck then yeah.

Not sure. I think the 500 or 650 is a little more practical for off road use. That 1000 is a monster (and expensive).

 

The 500 is only $112 at Walmart. Seems much more practical than the 1000. But that thing is sweet, not as sweet as the chainsaw you could buy for that kind of money though.

 

True, but I wouldn't have to worry about fuel, oil, maintenance, being a chainsaw mechanic, sharpening/replacing the chain, ear protection, other protective clothing, and anything else involved with a chainsaw.

It says if LT had to be LT donor. So Chevy made a few but it wont be a cheap swap.
Now the new Colorado diesel would be cool as fuck.

 

Yeah I'm leaning closer towards suping up the 4.0 these days and not have to worry about all the swaping stuff.
