I had the entire front suspension off of my truck last Spring. I just replaced everything. Kept the OEM ones as spares.

Thanks for the input guys. I’ll probably pick one up as a trail spare but hopefully I’ll never need it. Did a quick search but came up empty, what’s the size needed for tie rod tool? I know there are kits but seems unnecessary when only one size is needed.

Ask John which one he has. It's nice.

This is what I'm talking about. I know there are other ways but I've never had to change a tie rod so unsure how much easier the tool made it.

Tool would give you the ability to toqure it to spec and makes a little easier. We could have gotten by with out in this instance.

I forget the size. All I remember that it was a standard size. Not metric.

Damn that's a nasty one. Never done this, knock on wood, but I have had two OEM full spares at all times since i started wheeling cause my buddy did this on my first time out years and years ago. Also wish i had that fancy tool, just used channel locks.

I still need a spare driveshaft though. Smashed mine for like the 3rd time several weeks ago. Without an @El Dahs spare i had to drive home in fwd mode

Wish i was out there to supply you with the parts!

What issues did you have with yours again?

I’m asking, because I really want to upgrade. Not sure I want to wait on Marlin.

I carry one inner and both sides outers for this exact reason.

Do first gen have side specific tie rod ends? Interesting.

Yeah our outer's are side specific, but the inners are universal.

I hit a rock hard enough to bend the frame (changed my camber and caster about 1/3rd degree) and blew out the drivers side inner oil seal with the shock load. Fortunately I didn't bend a spindle...

That seal is the weak spot in the tundra rack design, but it's not hard to replace. I carry a trail spare now and could fix the same issue in a campsite overnight if I have to.

I was having the same debate last spring, I'm glad I didn't wait.

Anyone going around new years? Will be passing through on a solo trip out west. Might as well stop by and check it out.
