Thanks...but what are the risks? I am confused here...Not sure what I am missing because I don’t think I’m down playing anything if there are no risks, unless I am truly missing something, please let me know. I welcome feedback! Thanks!

Sure. 4 guys in my immediate area at work drive standards. Just asked them if they leave it out of gear with just the handbrake. 4 for 4 said no and its a dumb idea if you can avoid it.

Quick search on thread here. Whether it's "frozen" or "loose".
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/search/7289960/?q=E-brake&t=post&o=date&c[title_only]=1

Relying on the handbrake alone do anything more than a slight incline Just isn't something I would personally do.

Like I said though, the addition of chock blocks is a different story. Or just don't use the starter on a hill. Still a cool product though.

Question - In the demo videos I've seen, the person is hitting the lock button 3 times with a pause in between. Is that necessary to pause between presses, or can you press it three times fast in succession?

Sure, but if you do a search here for folks asking if they have had their trucks move while parked on a slight incline in gear, you will note that several have had the issue. The compression is low enough that leaving the truck without the handbrake in first/reverse gear it posses the possibility of it moving...so it's not really leaving it in gear it's the handbrake that is doing the work, and in a year and a half of temps and snow/rain/sleet I haven't had a lockup. I get what you saying and at first it sounded like horsepucks but were not driving a 1988 subaru or 1974 dodge ram anymore where there were 4 or 5 gears and higher compression, mostly this is attributed to EPA standards and therefor 6 or more gears with lower compression.

Yep, from my experience, it’s the rarely used parking brake cables that freeze up when they get water/moisture in them. Sometimes reaching underneath and giving them a good shake will free them up. If not, a hair dryer or heat gun in the lowest hanging points will usually release them. I use my parking brake everyday and have always washed my trucks regularly in the winter and have never had a problem.
Looks like a great product and i’ll bet they’re gonna sell a ton of the them

Freezing isn't going to be an issue in Alaska...everything is always frozen there! Here where it gets above freezing during the day it is a problem. Stuff freezes up solid at night when temps drop!

Old School Again lol, cut the rear emergency cable and away we go. In my garage or driveway I can see it working for me and I may consider this optoin. I guess for safety and theft purposes that's where the old school comes in to play, leaving it in gear to make it harder to tow or roll. But I applaud your efforts because it gives MT's the option. Keep up the good work $.02

He’s only doing it slow so you can see it; demo video. Do it as fast as you can as long as you get 3 lock chirps back to back. Heck, I press it 4, 5, 6 times fast just to make sure there are 3 successions in there somewhere...no pause needed but it can’t be so fast that you skip an audible “locking chirp”. It’s as fast as your vehicle can process the press of the button. So press it as many times as you want if you want to go fast.

    Thanks!!!

But question, couldn’t they pop it into first to crank start it down a hill? All it takes is breaking the window, crawling in and lowering the e-brake manually? Why would they tow or roll a manual transmission without ever going into the vehicle? I would think if it’s gear, they would rather take it out of gear than cut a line? I’m not sure if modern manuals will still crank/start when rolled and popped into first but I know cars in 90s could be...

Then I can only respond with use it when you’re not always on a hill or in the summer time if you live in that type of terrain, city folks don’t typically experience this the majority of the time so they can sacrifice not using it the few times they’re on a hill and still want to keep it in gear. With that said, if I’m not on a hill, I personally don’t leave it in gear (only use e-brake) because if someone backs into you or rams your parked car, your transmission won’t be at risk of damage. Only manuals have that luxury of avoiding the transmission strain during that type of scenario. Just my opinion but thanks for the kind words to all. It’s already a hit, wanted to share the news with the world because a lot of MT drivers have been requesting this with no attention from any company or product offering at all. It’s there for those who want it!

    Re: frozen e-brakes.

I had a habit of pulling my e-brake ~90-95% rather than the full pull. This left me just a little bit of margin for a good tug to break loose a stuck cable. That was on one particular car that had a habit of freezing. Can’t speak to anything in the past 20 years though. :)

Thanks guys this has been a big hit thanks to people like yourselves!

So much so that we created a plug n play kit for NON HKEY NON Push to start 3rd gens! This kit GIVES you a FOB for your base Tacoma’s so you don’t have to walk up to the door to unlock or lock anymore, you now have a power door lock FOB, as well as remote engine start/stop from a half mile away on the same FOB, and the ability to turn your hazards on or off from this FOB. The FOB has an audible two way sound and LED indicator to notify you if your button presses made it to the vehicle or not so your don’t have to worry wondering! You get two FOBs with this kit and you can also add the smart phone app module to it at anytime to do all this from anywhere in the world including GPS locate! NOW NO 3rd gen has been left behind from the remote start market! 100% Plug n Play! I felt it would be an injustice not to announce it here since not most people browse the classifieds on here, so with that said, I won’t get into details as the mods have been very kind to me and this is not a for sale thread, this is a public announcement post because we all live our Tacoma’s, it’s not fair that some mods are only trim applicable. We did the MT lots last month and they were a hit because no one catered to that small group either. Talk about Tacoma enthusiasts, that’s me. If you have an idea you’d like to PM me about to control anything on your vehicle via phone app, message me, I love challenges and innovating! Current projects I’m working on are independent power tailgate control (pop n lock sold separately), and a collaboration with a very well respected vendor here @mattgecko via remote start phone app. He sells bed and hood lights, were teaming up to sell a pre or post purchase/install interface so that you can use your remote start app to also turn lights on and off on your vehicle via the press of a button on the remote start app. Stay tuned and thanks for the support! This forum is one heck of a great family and resource, we’re going to give back in many awesome ways!

Bump for Jimmy. Another successful 6MT 3rd Gen with N2 remote start. Great company to work with. Had some issues with my alarm going off when remote starting and Jimmy took care of me right away. Buy it...you won’t be disappointed.

Hi, Forgive my possible ignorance but....if the tpms will still function with the wire clipped, what exactly is that wire originally for?

It's not being clipped indefinitely. It's being clipped, then each open end (now that you have two ends) go to my 2-wire connector which then plugs into the remote starter, so we can bypass it during remote start then the contact is whole again post remote start as if it were "never clipped". It’s a must to start the vehicle. All remote starters on HKEY require this, not just mine.

    *edit - great question @WOTaco

    Canada Eh!
@N2DesignsInc Great looking product. Even better that the cell phone module will work in Canada.

I do have a question about the setting sequence. How does opening/closing the rear door effect the arming of the remote start module, say to grab groceries or let the dogs out? i.e. a sequence of> neutral, park brake, foot off brake, ignition off, open drivers door, close drivers door, open rear door, close rear door, lock vehicle? Is it still armed? If not that would probably cause me not to purchase.

    Thanks!

When the last door is closed, it sets it. If the only door to open then close first is drivers door, then if you do open any other door, it has voided ready mode and must be done again. One way to avoid this is to open the drivers door, leave it open, then open the rear door, then shut drivers door, or leave driver's door open until everyone exits...bottom line, the last door to close sets the vehicle in a state of "remote start-ready". If it did not, then the whole point of ensuring safety really is pointless and doing all the steps preceding it would be a waste of time.

The point is that we ensure that if a vehicle door is opened after it has been set to ready mode, then we assume that the e-brake might have been put down, the shifter bumped (intentionally put, or accidentally) into gear and so on. We watch the door opening because thats the only thing that always has power when the car is off. The E-brake signal and shifter position do not relay status when the vehicle is off, so there is no way to tell if it's state has or hasn't changed. I hope this makes sense and helps you understand why it is what it is. At the end of the day, safety and the health of your transmission/engine come first. Most folks embrace this notion at the end of the day...especially when there are no other solutions on the market for this vehicle and transmission combination. We were the first, and still remain the only ones.
