Mac OS is not supported, but Bootcamp runs windows on a Mac OS, so it’s like having a windows pc embedded on your Mac.

Thanks for that. The damn hypertech only fixes the dash indication, not what the ECU sees.

Even though he says he doesn't work weekends I bet he is anyway to get this out for everyone. Then he can take some well deserved time off for the holidays.

He didn't mention it in the post, so I just hope the 2019 files are released at the same time.

I am really excited to pull the trigger on this in the near future. However, just going to play the devils advocate. Are Toyota’s engineers this incompetent? They employ some of the best in the world, yet we are left with a must have tune from a small auto performance company (in relative terms to Toyota). What was Toyota trying to accomplish with this horrendous shifting from the factory? MPG, but Matt’s tune improves this. What is given up by using the tune over stock, if anything? Just seems too good to be true. Why wouldn’t Toyota have already fixed this issue? Seems like they really f**ed up on this one. I have owned a lot of Toyota’s over the past 10-15 years and never had an experience like this one with the 3rd gens shifting. I know this was a move away from the traditional sense of a shift table, but Toyota wasn’t even close to executing this correctly. They have left it this way since 2016 so to them I guess it is “working as intended”.

Having a hard time with what Toyota was trying to accomplish, and why they have chose to ignore this. Thanks Matt for your hard work on this tune, and providing us the fix Toyota should have provided to us to begin with.

My thoughts exactly. I just can’t understand how a company like Toyota effed this up so badly.

    Deadlines.

Deadlines are what happened. They had a time frame to work with, they tried something new, and they couldn’t get it right before the truck hit the market.

Now they’re on deadlines for the next project, so they can’t go back and fix it.

Exact same situation, just want the handheld also. For some reason the handheld conversation has vaporized?

I used to work for a major automotive supplier (retired). We were feed the "Toyota Production System" which is a world class way of doing business.
We had a sign in our conference room that read....."None of us are as dumb as all of us".
I have watched many simple ideas grow into monsters after everyone is allowed input.

I don't know what industry you work in, but this doesn't mean anything.. i don't know if it's something that comes with age (I'm still young) but the amount of people who come to work and the only effort they apply is not to do their damn job is too high.

    Here is my take.
First, I think the way Toyota does business and how they treat their employees is excellent. At a school I went to one of my professors in a class I was in did some HR stuff for Toyota.
They treat their employees to stuff like bongo drum circles to throw ideas around, spa days, trips, all sorts of out of the box stuff which is really cool.

They also employ extremely intelligent people, and from what I've seen and know, a majority of their calibration guys are from an engineering school in Texas ( if I remember right ).
These engineers likely design a "base calibration" using a software I have also used.
I've played with OEM level calibration development and modeling software, it's by far the most..mathematically complex thing you can imagine outside of quantum mechanics.

But, it's a team of people who send out drivers to record tons of data. They throw this data into interpreting software that allows the calibration to be changed. It's altered, cleaned, etc etc.

At the end the engineers design it to meet XYZ demand and that's it. They don't drive it and I'd bet it isn't even their responsibility to make sure it drives well, only to make sure it meets emissions/mpg etc demand.
I'm also quite certain they never actually drive the truck to feel how terrible it is.

Finally, Toyota is notorious for releasing terrible calibrations in their cars. MANY of their cars have TSBs to fix shifting, jerking, acceleration issues, etc.

Google "TSB Shift enhancement Toyota" or "TSB shift enhancement Lexus" you'll see this has been going on for 15+ years. Way back to the first reflashable ECUs in the IS300 / GS300.

Over collaboration, SCRUM get-it-to-market while it’s “good enough”, and no personal investment in final product have plagued companies like Toyota for years.

People like Mat are the reason they can get away with it. At the end of the day, the 3rd party companies will take care of it for people who expect better from their purchase. Toyota’s bottom like is not affected whatsoever.

I'm in the same situation. I have loaned a small Lenovo Flex 11.x with a cheap CPU, it works well for this case.
Look at Walmart online for refurbished items. Important is only that it is a Windows and not a Chromebook. You should find stuff for less than 200
