    I would have terminated you on the spot. Sorry, nothing personal, I have no tolerance for goof-offs, and there are plenty of people out there who will take the job seriously. For those people who are saying you can't be fired, unless your State laws prevent an employer for terminating "at will", you can be terminated for any trivial reason, including that your bosses didn't like the way you part your hair (just long as it's not for a law protected reason, like handicap, race, gender, etc). Unless you're covered by collective bargaining which limits the actions the employer can take, also, firing is on the table.

    Yes, I do work in HR. And I have seen many people be fired for what is termed "Gross Misconduct". And fired with just a quick phone call to HR to confirm the validity of the action. Based on your own description of the action, I'm surprised you weren't fired before the end of the shift. Your manager must really like you.
