I don't have one of those testers, or know how to use them. :(

Ground wire is mounted on top of the antenna wire on the bottom of the hood bracket. Grounded to where the battery is grounded.

Just being honest. I can build a website, but no clue how to work one of those. I know what I don’t know. :anonymous:

I'm looking at the photo of the ground wire connected on the bottom of the antenna bracket, and I'm not liking it... Sorry.
Since you don't have a multimeter to test it out could you please remove that wire from there, make sure you have a clean exposed metal on bottom of bracket ( around the hole), and reinstall the fire ring without that ground wire. Test swr. I would try to connect ground to one of support bolts instead ..

I know I read somewhere maybe in another Thread about fire Rings being a little finicky sometimes, but I don't know how to test if it's working okay or not without the multi meter.

Edit. And over the internet

I think you want the ground as short as possible, ideally it would just ground to what it's mounted to, if it's big enough a hood mount typically isn't. Did you scrape any powder coat off to make a good ground connection.

Could be interference with the ground that close to battery.

I’ll try a few things tomorrow when there’s more light. And hopefully it’s not raining (much). The downside of not having a garage. :(

Damn, working today. Woulda grabbed pizza.

On the CB antenna topic, how is the antenna grounded? Is there another wire other than the one to the radio itself?

I bought a secondhand antenna, havent gotten around to installing it yet, but it will be on a caliraised bracket by the taillight.

Also, @Bastek what do you mean by fire ring?

Working again. I swapped shifts today so that I could have last Monday off since I was in NC.

I swapped tomorow because another guy wanted to have off tomorow, but it gives me Fri/Sat/Sun off coming up

It's an antenna wire with a a sealed connector that @dziner is sporting.
    20181215_170739.jpg
It is supposed to be weather sealed or whatnot. Some people swear by it, some people have issues (possibly with water penetration and corrosion).
    20180521_214440.jpg
From looks of it, it should be placed against the bracket to prevent water intrusion.

If that green "G" horizontal line is the hood mount bracket, my ground wire is between that and the Fire-Ring.

I may also try removing the quick disconnect and heavy spring and just mounting the antenna to the FireRing stud mount.

I saw that, and I'm not digging it... Lol I'm actually afraid it might be the cause of your issue Either shorting out your stud, or preventing proper connection.
Or, I might be completely wrong :notsure:

    One step at the time?
