yeah I dunno every year is a little different than the last out here. Not much of a rut noted here...mild weather though so I dont know how much that has to do with it...

actually hoping my son gets one. he got skunked this year. usually he gets one or two good ones. and kudos to him. he saw a 140 in one on a road bank on land we hunt in last week of rifle but did not shoot it. you can tell a mans values by his actions when no one is watchin. he parked and try to still hunt in behind it but it was gone.makes a dad proud!

There’s not much food around here. No acorn crop to speak of. I’m assuming that has something to do with it.

One of the 4 points from this morning came back in this evening running a doe. No way she was hot, though. She had to have been one of this spring’s fawns. She might have weighed 60 lbs. she’s tiny. But, it’s nice just seeing some rut action.

That’s a nice young buck. If he survives this season, he’ll be even bigger next season.

I like the skull cap design for antlers. How do you clean yours? I boiled mine with some borax and scrubbed it with a stiff-bristled nylon brush to get the organic bits off. I did it on the side burner on the grill, though, because it smells pretty bad.

We've done a few of these European mounts. A guy I knew used water and bleach and let them soak for a few days(I dont remember how long) and hed pull em out of the bucket and knock the organic bits off. It didnt affect the color if the antlers, just the skull cap was nice and white.I still think he said it smelled bad that way.

Or maybe shoot him next year when he’s bigger... :stirthepot:

European mounts are really cool too. Next big buck I shoot I’m considering doing that.

Also as per normal because deer hunting in Alabama is completely illogical. During the end of act I, the intermission, and the very beginning of act II of the young and the restless... A doe and yearlin came out together and grazed for like 15 minutes because "hey they are in rut and that's their business, but this grass taste too good right now to think about men" or something like that
