So.......I admit I am a little triggered by these “I traded my taco” type threads. I just see them as pointless. If I traded my 3rd Gen for a Ridgeline, I’d probably just ghost the forum. Like.....why would you enter a Tacoma enthusiast forum and tell everyone you found what you believe is a better vehicle? To me it’s inane, and generally just being a braggart or a “one-upper” and no one likes those kind of people.

So here are my true thoughts on the Tundra:

No one, not a single person ever, is impressed by your Tundra other than other Tundra owners. The reason is that Toyota styled it to be a rolling blob. The styling is so terribly boring that no matter how many chrome bits and black bits and shiney bits they glue all over it, it natural blobbiness shows through. They took away any mojo the design had in the wind tunnel, and made it a somewhat feminine-looking, rounded blob. That is what 99% of the population who don’t own Tundras see, subconsciously, which is why no one has ever been inspired by the Tundra. The grand irony, is all those bland body curves, do not result in a fuel efficient vehicle. So you get bad styling, with no benefit!

So.....none of this means anything if you view the Tundra as a tool to get a job done, or enjoy driving it. But in those categories as well, the truck is outshone dollar-for-dollar by what Ford offers for the same price. Ford owns the full-size category because their full size trucks are superior to the Tundra, mechanically and esthetically. They drive better, get better gas mileage, are equally reliable, and look the part.

Now the 3rd Gen Taco for sure has its faults, and all owners know that from certain angles the new Tacos looks like crap, but it does possess a style that looks tough and capable when you catch it in the right light. The Tacoma has mojo and a definitive inspiring style. I think the reason why the guys who trade in their tacos come back to this forum to tell as all about their Tundras, is because they miss being part of the cool crowd.

Anyways......my two bits on Tundra. For me, and most people, they get a “try harder Toyota”. Maybe the next gen Tundra will deliver.

I agree. The 3rd gen Tacoma looks badass.

I see no reason to buy a tundra. The F150 Ford is superior in every regard.

Plus, a rousche or raptor is basically on the same level as luxury car on the streets.

I’m waiting for a new model of tundra to come before I bite. The tundra was great for its time, 2007, but it can use a lot of updating. I won’t get rid of the Tacoma though, just add to the mix.

Have you ever dealt with Ford customer service?? They are a pathetic group of liars and thieves.I would not put Ford reliability above Yugo.I made a bad bad bad decision when I bought my first and last Ford product in 2012.I just got a new recall in the mail today for a problem that they denied that existed for years..

Pretty sure Toyota has done the same now and then. I won't give all the examples because we all know them...

Toyota service reps have been just as bad in my experience.

I never had to have a repair for my second or my third gen or my MR2, so I guess I lucked out

I’m probably going to go back to a full sized. Before the Tacoma I had a pretty loaded up F150. I was never a fan of domestic vehicles but I really loved that truck. I’d probably still be able to get D plan pricing so it would be tough to beat that deal. I can get GM pricing through my current work, but I’ve never been a fan of GM. I do kinda like the look of the new Sierra. I guess I would have to check them out. New Silverado I think looks hideous. Same with the Titan. Not sure when Toyota plans to release the next gen of Tundra. I would have some interest in looking at one if it was available around the time I start looking around. Not sure how I feel about the new rams. The interior is nice, especially the ones with the big ass screen. If I went mid sized again the only other thing that would be appealing would be the ranger. I like the Tacoma looks better, but I know that ecoboost with the 10 speed is going to be smooth as butter, and not have any power issue. Toyota obviously has the best reliability in my opinion in the fullsized segment. The thing that worried me most about the Tacoma was the frame and if 3rd gens will be plagued in the future too. Time will tell, but I never keep my vehicles that long. Too hard to say what I’ll get, I won’t start looking until I’m ready to buy. Don’t want to get antsy. Been trying to get in as an electrician in our plant. If that happens, I’ll probably keep the Tacoma just a little longer and then pull the trigger on a Raptor.
