This thread is for 2005-2015 5lug tacomas only
If you need info for 95.5-04 5lug tacomas the go here:https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...erd-suspension-guide-and-general-info.545351/

    5lug market place: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/5lug-buy-sell-classifieds.547314/

Will update as i find more options for 05-15 5lug tacomas and threads when more info is found. All second gen 5luggers are welcome to comment with more info if you see something missing, if you have or know of a build thread/write up for any of the info below. Trying to make this as complete as i can for everyone to use.

Note: with 3” lift recommended tire size is 31x9.5 with minor trimming, but is is possible to go up to 33” tires with proper rims

Note: lifting the rear requires longer shocks

What is a 5lug, what makes it different then a 6lug
Commonly called 5lug or “mini truck”, A 5lug tacoma is a 2wd model tacoma designed for a more economical market that the bigger 6lug versions weren’t designed to target. They are a lowerd version of a tacoma utilizeing a spring under axel (sua) set up in the rear and up front uses Struts but are different then the 6lug. They were designed to have a softer/smoother ride then 6lug tacomas which tend to be more stiff. 6lugs tacomas use a spring over axel (soa) and use struts up front, for this reason 6lug suspension parts WILL NOT FIT on 5 lug tacomas. 5 lug tacomas also have a lower pay load rating and tow rating compared to 6lug tacomas.

As someone with technically around 4" of lift in the rear with a single driveshaft I should note that I needed a driveshaft spacer. I'm currently waiting for it to come in and will update my lift progress once it's all worked out.

This may be a long shot. I was looking around at different strut options and notice that the 1st get 4x4 Tacoma AC front struts are only about 2in longer than the stock 2nd gen 5 lug. Theoretically, this would give a 2in or more lift. the 2 limitations I can foresee is the strut interfering with the upper arm, and or the strut pattern is off. My question is, Has anyone tried this? upload_2018-8-29_13-31-43.jpg

You have to double it so its 4” of lift if its 2” taller

Also idk if the top plates will watch up

Its recommended you replace them. But not required, unless you have some rusty ones you had to cut off

Any thoughts on Fat Bobs lift kit subbed out the rear shocks for the bilsteins 4600. im wondering if the bilsteins would lift the same amount as the fat bob's would have? Fat Bob rear looks questionable to me and would rather have the bils if possible. Thanks for any knowledge.

It would be the Bilstein 5100 with the add a leaf added. (The lift comes from the add a leaf not the shock) You could also go with almost any shock meant for a 6 lug with 0-1" lift. Like fox shocks. The front unfortunately is still a 4600 no matter what unless you find an upper control arm and go mid travel

Gotcha and thanks a lot! So can you explain how lift kits that give 2.75 up front and ~1.75 in the back create an equal lift? Cuz I was mistakenly thinking the longer shocks helped with the variance...

Front ride hight is lower on a stock truck. All trucks have this rack. Its to help with carrying heavy loads

Now a levling kit adds more lift in The front then rear to give a level hight. This is achieved through the spacer and AAL. The shocks are just there to smooth out the ride. But you need longer ones if the rear is lifted or else the shocks will top out before you achieve full travel. Up front remains the same. Hense why you need 5lug 4600 up front and can run 6 lug shocks in the rear

Ok so I wanted to roughly maintain that stock ratio, just add another AAL to achieve that added height? If so will 5100's not top out and are the u bolts in those kits long enough? Thanks for all the help!!

Theu bolts typically supplied are way to long so it will work. But a AAl will stiffen the ride. 2 will be stiffer. You can look into doing a shackle flip and aal if you would like to keep the stock rake

Right on! I read your write up on that and was thinking that could be a solution! Wonder what one would charge for that shackle flip?

If your savy with trucks a shackle flip adds roughly 1" extra to the rear as well as make the ride more plush
