I am wanting to plant a few things and grow a small garden in the box's I built! Is it to late in the year or can I still plant?? And if so what can I plant at this time??

you still have time to plant tomatos/cucumber/squash and peppers.........just make sure you use good soil and fertilizer. with as hot as it stays here up until the end of september...you should be good to go.

i just started my 5 gallon bucket tomatos a few weeks back.

 

Are palces like Lowes Hardware and Walmart still selling the seeds??

 

oh yeah man...they always have tons of seeds, its where i got all my stuff from....but i got my soil from lowes.

 

I got soil from last year in the box's! I am thinking about stirring it up, planting my seeds, putting some fertilizer on it and then watering it! Will that work you think??

 

Sorry for all the questions this is my first garden. Dad told me I could plant and try whatever I wanted he did not want to do it this year...so I am going to try one!

 

yeah man....that should work, but i'd buy another bag of fresh soil and mix it just for the nutrients. stuff should grow pretty good. something else that helps gardens is rainwater....especially rainwater from a barrel(we make home made rain barrels)....free water...and as it sits....algae grows in it and that really helps the stuff you planted.

 

you need to use fresh soil or use some compost to restore nutrients. i'm sure you can still grow in last years soil but you'll get better results with fresh soil or by adding compost (which i doubt you have now but if you want a good garden definitely start a compost heap asap) In NC you should be able to grow almost year round. there are plants that grow in almsot every season, you just have to go online and figure out what grows in which season and the best time to plant. really the only time you are gonna have a really hard time growing is in the dead of winter.

 

btw, are you growing actual garden plants or are you just discretely trying to find out about growing weed?
