Oh no I agree 100% I’ve been a electrician for 15 years. The trade has treated me very well. My daughters have it good and do what they enjoy, my wife has been able to take 10 years off to pursue school as a Physician. I have no collage debt unlike my wife but a lot kids now days think college is the only way.

I'm seriously considering trading for a 2018 F150. Both my father, and my brother have them, my brother in the Supercrew 4x4 model, and he's getting 23+ MPG around town. And the back seat is huge. My Tacoma back seat- you can't even put a rear facing child seat behind the drivers seat, and have it all the way back, it just doesn't fit. And they both can tow close to 10K pounds(I think my fathers 2WD truck can tow in excess of 10K). My Tacoma seems to be stuck at 15MPG (only 23K miles on it, maintenance done regularly). The transmission has "issues", the ride isn't the greatest(every day going to work I hit a dip in the road that literally causes the suspension to bottom out unless I'm doing 20+ mph under the limit).
I also want to be done with a black truck- that was a mistake for me.

100% agree with everything you say.

Skilled trades offer a viable existence, especially when the economy is humming, like now.

It also can be downright dangerous, working in difficult environments, working hurt, facing layoff when the job is done, dealing with difficult people on a daily basis, etc.

Not everyone is cut out to do these jobs.

If you are a competent person with a good work ethic, you will do well though, imo.

Thought this also needed to be said.

If I test drive a ranger, I’ll let you know.

I know it felt good to drive something with some actual balls like the coyote F150. Rather, paper-tiger Tacoma, which looks aggressive but has less get-up and less HP than my Sienna VaN

You should have waited for the updated Tundra, bad move.

    I have a 16 Tundra and 16 Taco.
    Both serve their purposes.
    Both have plusses and minses.
To say you lost control of the Taco thus traded for a Tundra is kind of bewildering, but whatever. My Taco goes anywhere anyway I point it.
You'll like the power of the tunny, but not the gas mileage. You'll be surprised at the 0-60 of both trucks, almost equal. If gas rises dramatically you will hate it. The size is a plus but then again can be a pita.
The taco seems more sporty, and maneuverable. A more daily driver.
The tunny, more of a work hauler, a work truck.
I would not let go of my 16 Taco before the tunny.
But if you need to haul 9000 lbs, get the tunny.
People that drive a F-150 look like they are going to work, driving a Taco looks like they are on vacation. Point made.

What features did you lose with the Tundra? I haven't read much about them. I'm seriously considering the same thing myself. This Tacoma just can't handle a large load or trailer to what I would like.

You will love it. As mentioned before, the MPG is not good. The deal I got and the way I moved money around, even with the added monthly cost of gas for me now, my overall monthly budget is better. I usually buy new because I get my Toyotas at invoice but I am waiting for the new generation to come out and see what they did.

Well, I had the sport and tech package. My Tundra just has the SR5 upgrade and Offroad pkg.

I lost my smart key, heated seats, auto climate control, auto headlights, mpg, ease of reaching in bed to get something (Tacoma sits around 4" lower) Upper trim levels has those things I lose except the smart key system and mpg.

I gained, even on lower trim level: Power drivers seat, engine power, towing and hauling capacity, electric brakes, bigger console storage and under seat storage. Front parking sensors. A ton more room inside and much more comfortable especially on a longer trip. Its better in the snow, mostly because it is heavier. The ride is much better.

    Good luck.

I bought a used Tundra at a really good price with the thought of getting a redesigned one in the near future. Couldnt take the Taco anymore. To each their own. Only drawback of the Tundra vs Taco is mpg, easier to reach in bed of Taco (lower) and Taco , a bit better resale. The feeling of driving a full size truck... priceless! :) Be good brother!

No way would I buy a newly redesigned Tundra. Just like the taco, you have to wait 4 years before they get the bugs out of it. The TSS in the 2018s+ is causing plenty of problems, just wait till they put a "new" drivetrain in it.

Here is an example of one of the current TSS issues threads:

I hear ya. My 16 Taco had some issues. I am hoping I can get a new one without all that assisted driving crap. Only thing I like are the blind spot sensors and parking sensors. If I cant avoid them ( coming standard ) I will turn them all off. The issues with them wont affect me.

I'm sorry, the F150 is not superior to a Toyota in any respect. I bought a Toyota(s) so what I buy will stay together.

I hear you. Traded my 2016 SR5 on 2/9/18. Got a '19 SR now. Silver Sky is a lot better. :) That freaking black worked me hard.

I'm in the market for new truck. Lived overseas for awhile and believe me, Toyota gives us their crappy models. There biggest global seller is the mighty Hilux with 2.8 litre turbo diesel. Try 30MPG. With the wacky transmission, early shifting, gear searching mess of the taco the Hilux owns this pile in real world use. Check out this hilarious tug of war between a Hilux and Taco. The low end torque of the Hilux embarrasses the crap out of the taco.

Downsized to the Tacoma 4 yrs ago when I retired. My wife is getting a new vehicle in January and the minute it is paid for the Tacoma will be gone. (4yrs from now).

I have a very long list of dislikes that all added together make me regret buying the Taco.

    1. Fuel mileage.( Never seen a vehicle that vary in mpg as this thing. If you put 500 lbs in the back you lose 2 mpg and so on)
    2. Minor creature comforts-lack of heated mirrors ,compass, outside temp. Inverter is worthless. No charging of the phone with the vehicle off.
    3. Back bed is so shallow you can forget about hauling a whole lot.
    4. Seats suck. You shouldn't have to add foam to a seat after 40k.
5.thinnest paint job I've ever seen. You touch it, it's scratched.
    6. 4.0 is the noisest motor of anything I have owned.
    7. Wind noise

In the vehicles defense, it has been very dependable mechanically, but I do regret buying it.
