So long story short I picked up my truck yesterday, and it got some bird doo on the hood. I laid a warm (soaked) microfiber towel on the hood to help easy the doo off. Next thing I know is as I’m wiping the hood with my detailing cloth I notice spots in the paint. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Bird poop is extremely acidic, go over it with a polish or a good wax and it'll likely surface the damaged clearcoat

The truck was built 11/29 so I assumed the paint was cured, if it matters.

It looks like I might have somehow damaged the underside of the clear coat. Perhaps too warm of a rag

Warm water and dish soap. Try that.

If that doesn’t fix it show it to the dealer

Id try a cleaner wax first. Light polish if necessary. Shouldn't be an issue. Apply wax or something that'll give you protection. I've been using mckees hydro blue sio2 lately because it's super easy and quick.

Yeah I mean all the poop is gone and this is what is left. I guess I just don’t know how the spots formed in the first place.

Are you positive it's from the rag? Seems unlikely that it would cause any damage. Residential hot water is typically only 120F (not that hot).

I assume it’s from the rag because the spots are only in the area where I set the rag. I looked elsewhere and didn’t see any spots.

Lol that's not bird poop stains, so you can relax.

It's a common problem caused by the shipping wrap. Happens mostly on flat surfaces that get exposed to the sun, you'll probably find it on the roof of the truck near the windshield. Sun has to hit it the right way to make it look really obvious.

Water gets under the shipping protection wrap and soaks into the paint.

There is a TSB for it, and your dealer can fix it for you probably in a couple hours, or it will fix itself under the hot sun in the summer.

Paint needs to be heated to 80 deg Celcius for a few minutes (no hotter or you can damage the paint) and the moisture will come out of the clearcoat as it cools.

If it was the rag, the damage would be the size and shape of the rag.

If the rag did that to your paint, it would have done worse to your hand.

Found this...almost identical marks...guess I’m gonna have to wait 6 months for the marks to dry out (I live in Seattle )

perhaps I should see what the dealer recommends (if they even care).

Easy call for me to make, I had it on my Black truck.

Looks almost like a splash or spray pattern but not quite right.

If you ever see new cars when they come off the trucks they are covered in white wrap. It gets heavy water spray from the open sides of the truck carriers.
Water seeps under the wrap. Then when these nice nice new trucks with semi-cured paint get exposed to heat and or UV rays the water gets absorbed into the clear coat.

It looks like it's under the clear coat. Bright sun hits it at the right angle it looks almost like it's a blister but it's completely smooth.

My dealer was clueless about it, wanted to repaint the truck. Glad I did my homework.

Heatgun and thermometer and heat the affected areas to 80 deg C for 3-5 minutes. Let cool completely and re-inspect.
Avoid any gaskets and seals for obvious reasons and don't go over 80 deg C.
