Had to wait to till put more miles on the truck (old oil) to get into it. Today was the day.

    The ingredients.
    20181215_132353.jpg
First had to remove the skid plate, a true PIA, heavy and large.
    20181215_132545.jpg
Next was to drain the old oil (same as above) after 8500 miles and the magnetic drain plug was clean, no metal particles on it.
    20181215_140714_001.jpg
After that the fun part was next to drain the oil filter cartridge.
    20181215_142717.jpg
    So sloooooooow.
    20181215_142733.jpg
Next removing the beloved oil cartridge.
    20181215_140652.jpg
    And clean it inside.
    20181215_144614.jpg
And installed the Baxter oil filter adapter.
    20181215_150639.jpg
Followed by the spin-on Toyota filter.
    20181215_151413.jpg
As you can see, there is plenty of space left between the filter and lower cross arms, remember the skid plate is below that. I have more that 3" gap between the oil filter can and skid plate.
    20181215_151432.jpg
    20181215_151456.jpg
It took about 3 hours. Put back the skid plate, new oil and checked for problems under the beast. All OK.

Why not drain the oil through the pan?

Lol, nvm. I missed the text between the pictures.

TRD Exhaust, Mobtown bolt on sliders and aluminum tailgate reinforcement, Reverse lights changed to yellow turn signals, LED pods added for reverse, ADD W1 oil catch can, Total Chaos bed reinforcement, rear diff breather to taillight mod, 12" combo led bars behind lower grill wired to high beams, Toyota led bed light kit, 400 watt anytime mod, SSO slimeline front bumper.
Just in case you didn't know. The TRD skid plate has an access panel you can remove with a few allens to change the filter. One of the big benefits to it.

I know. Had to remove the skid plate to have enough room to remove the retaining clip and swing a torque wrench. From now on oil change through the access plate.

The only thing that would concern me is more places to leak. I still have nightmares about Jeep 4.0 oil filter housing leaks.

Now if Baxter would come up with a way to fit a transmission fluid dipstick that the dipstick engineers removed, we could change back all of the things they engineered to make more difficult for the consumer.

I can't wait for more people to do this. I'm dying to know if reusable oil filters can be used with this setup.

Told you you would like it! I am using the WIX 51348 because it is shorter than the Toyota OEM filter. Was concerned about the distance to the skid plate but seems you still have enough room. Going on my 4th oil change soon and will also switch to the Amsoil 5-30 next time.
