No, I didn't pass it, I Fucking Crushed It!

    20181215_211521.jpg

I didn't know it at the time but apparently did very well beacause before telling me, they asked me if I wanted to take the Amateur Extra test.

All said and done, 35 questions from a pool of over 400, with an allowance to miss 9. I took about 9 or 10 practice tests studying for a about 2 weeks, 1 week very seriously. A couple hours the night before, an hour here the morning of, then a half an hour there right before.

I Memorized OHMs Law formula, Power in Watts formula. Memorized the common circuit components of a transceiver.

The test questions are at random. Mine were barely any of the ones on my practice tests. I only had one component question and one formula question. The rest were all theory and practice.

I thought for sure I was going to psych myself out after the first couple of questions. I was shaking. I took my time moved on when I saw a unfamiliar question, then went back to it.

I only guessed at three, two I'm sure my first instinct was right, but guessed wrong. The third I was completely unsure.

So basically I only missed 3 total out of 35.

I'm going to study more and get some hands on real world practice then go for my Amateur Extra!

If you do it in the same day it only cost 15. But if you do it one at a time its 45.

Thanks Jim. At my age and with so few functioning brain cells it's definitely a major accomplishment.

Y do you need to wait 3 days for your call sign? You should have been issued the call sig6b that same day. They actual license take about a week. But 5han again if there are alot of testers it may take a while.

Well the club here doesn't charge anything. They're very informal, no officers, and only ask in return that you sign up to their email list, and try to spend some time at their events. In March I'm attending a recruiting/social meet at our towns emergency services facility. It could be a great chance to give back to the community. I'll see.

I know right! I'm pretty sure though I've racked my brain trying to figure it out. But I'll give it another shot. The return addresses are no help. Two are from the manufacturer.

Heard some clubs are doing that. There isnt enough peeps here to form a club, so the testie has to pay the fcc fees.

Well, typically it can take up to 3 weeks, like you said, depending on the number of submitted graduates. Somehow though this club can get them done in a day. Since the test was on a Saturday we only have to wait until Monday. Then if I don't like it I can apply for a vanity call sign. I'll look into it but I'm not sure one set of letters and numbers is better than another. I'll just keep checking the FCC database Monday around lunch.

Mine was the same way. I was the only tester and it still took about a week.
