Like they say on Pawn Stars..rare and collectable and valuable aren't always the same. a

Value is relative too. There are people who wouldn't give you $5 for a Redline RL20-II bike. Others would pay thousands for it.

I got my 10 single cab in October 2012. Previously it was a lease and the owner had a kid on the way. Happened to find it on the dealer's site with 6500 miles and called. That day after work it was still on the lift getting the Certified inspection but I put a deposit down contingent to test drive and approval. Drove it the next day, took it home the day after. Quite a few people were calling about it after I put the deposit down.

If I need to go out with other people, I take the wife's Rav4 or drive their car. Being a designated driver gives me bargaining power :)

For several yrs. I had a 1998 Tacoma reg. cab 4X4, a few months ago, I sold it & bought a 2013 reg. cab 4X4. While I had the 1998 & now that I have the 2013, It's amazes me how often, people I've never seen before, ask is that truck for sale, what would you take for your truck, or why don't you sell me that thing? Maybe that happens to everybody, but in my mind, the reg. cab is what's getting those folks attention.

I think emissions standards played a role. The bigger a vehicle’s footprint, the loser the regulations. I think engineering to the really strict rules of the smaller footprint became too expensive.

    Negative.

A 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity is also rare, but nobody wants a 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity.

Much like nobody is going to want to pay a premium for the Orkin fleet of used Tacomas.

My October 2018 experience: A low miles '14 RC Base showed up one morning on my Cars dot com alert at a dealer 2 hours away. I looked at the info at their website, grabbed my title, spare key, owner manual for the car I planned to trade and hit the road. I was there by noon, test drove it and made an offer. After the obligatory haggling, I was back on the road headed home in the Taco by 4 in the afternoon.

I had seen several others, but they were always hundreds (or thousands) of miles away. Or I called and they were already sold.

    Snoozers are losers.

But those fleet trucks would make a good base to make into Truggies and not feel guilty

Thing is, I’m 100% positive people wish they could have a single cab. Whether it be family, friends, kids, whatever they can’t justify it due to the space, but they wish they could have one. Why? Because they’re the fucking best.

On a similar note, Ford Pintos and Chevy Vegas are also rare. Mostly because they either burned or rusted into the ground many years ago. I'm pretty sure they're never going to be considered collectors items even though they're becoming rarer every day. Most Pinto and Vega collections are now simply iron oxide collections.

I can't believe anyone, even here at TW, would (or could) ever compare a Vega or Pinto, to a Tacoma. What were you thinking????

Because it illustrates the difference between rare and desirable. I get it.

It's most likely that they already got "a hold" of you while you were asleep. Or maybe you have a television in your home.

Your Access Cab has extra doors, you ninny. :stirthepot:

So did mine, and I appreciated being able to load/unload groceries, tools, a dog, etc. without having to be a contortionist like I did with my '99, my '96, and my '94 extended cab trucks.
