There is a torque spec stamped right on the canister, if memory serves me it is 18 ft lbs, no reason for them to be wrenching it down.

    Has vanilla taste :D
I have been using 5W-30 for the last 13000 miles and no problems. Same in wife's Camry.
Sine I am in AZ there is no problem. In VERY cold climates, I would use 0W-XX.

Keep it just in case I ever need to put it back. Also have the original plastic housing if I need to return it to stock condition for any engine warranty issues.
So far the engine is running good.

That thing is SOLID AND HEAVY. I guess is a bit over engineered but no complains.

I put oil in the filter before installing it.
I put 6.7qt of oil all together. It needs more oil to fill in the Baxter unit and also for bigger filter capacity. Add-check-add-check.

Did you use thread locker on the portion of the nipple which threads into the adapter? It says nothing in the instructions and they responded to an email I sent them and said it was optional. I put some blue thread locker on it just to be safe. Also found out a 1" 6 point deep socket will reach the flange right over the threaded nipple.

Camry has 4 cil. and uses cartridge oil filter.
Tacoma has 6 cil. and uses the same oil filter cartridge
Do you think that the Toyota engineers did that for engine longevity and efficiency or for them so save money???
5W-30 is better for engine. 0W-20 is better for fuel consumption :frusty:. I want my engine to last.

Blue. Let it sit for 30 min before I installed the filter on it.

No, I like the magnetic drain plug to see if engine is wearing out.

I guess I don't understand why the 4 and 6 can't use the same filter and how 5w-30 is better than 0w-20... Is yours an extended mile, extreme duty application?

I like the cartridge set up. It's quick and easy and you can visually check the filter.

Why do you need to visually check the filter?

The cartridge filters probably help manufacturers meet certain iso 140001 Bench, arks in environmental compliance for reducing solid waste. ISO certification is important in certain markets.
I don’t see a problem with the adapter or the cartridge. One advantage not mentioned here for the cartridge is the bypass will always work the same. While different manufacturers of can filters could have variations in setpoints and different tolerances for deviation from the set point. The Toyota filter and WIX are safe bets for cans.
I have looked at the unit l but the cost is not worth the minor convenience for me.

You can check and make sure there are no odd or irregular shavings, people have to cut open a regular spin on filter to do the same inspections.

Spin on filters we're great when I changed my oil every 3k.

At 200k I did over 60 oil changes.

The Tacoma will need 18 at the same mileage, since the dealership did the first two.

The cartridge filter is not all that different from the spin on considering the change interval is so much longer, imo.

But nice write up @Dacon .
