What is the big complaint with the BFGs? I too went from the Rugged Trails to Cooper STTs on my 2005.

The BFGs don't last as long as the STTs (30K vs 40K), but they are quiet on the road (STTs are VERY noisy), they give better gas mileage (1 mpg more at least), they work great in the sand & desert (STTs will bury your truck in sand).

The STT gets an 'A' when it comes to off road 'looks' and traction in mud and rocks... The noise and poor sand performance is why I won't get them again... I did like the Cooper Discoverer ATRs and Toyo Open Country ATs for my Tacoma... both were on my truck after the STTs came off.

I just wonder why so many like to call the BFGs 'Rugged Fails'? I had them on all three of my Tacomas, and they didn't 'fail' me... I do suggest you replace them by 25-30K, as they will get flats if the rubber is too thin (happened on my '01).

That is good... My 2010 gets the same as my 2005 did... Both were/are 4WD Off Road double cab automatics (V-6).

15.5 or less mpg if city only. Stop and goes really kill the mileage!
16.5-17.5 mpg if city + hwy
    18.5 mpg hwy mostly

My highest mileage was 18.7 coming back from our Baja trip on Memorial Day... 300+ hwy. miles

So what is the thought on the type of oil for mileage on the 4 banger 2.7L. 5W-20 or 0W-20 and is 0W-20 only available as a synthetic oil?

I've noticed recently that my SGII offset has had to be adjusted down to about 6% in order to remain accurate. I was set at 10 or 11% all winter and it was accurate to with in a tenth or two. However, about a month or two ago it started to become consistently inaccurate and I had to adjust it down to about 6%. I'm guessing either it's the warmer weather or the truck has broken in. I'm at almost 19k miles currently. Last few tanks have been 23.5mpg or better.

23 mpg!?! thats hard to believe! but thats awesome for you. how many miles a tank are you getting acording to your odo? When I had my scii I had my at a 5% increase to account for my bigger tires. my last tank was 18.2 mpg thats mostly freeway driving at 60-70 mph

Edit: I noticed you are talking about the tank size offset. It took me 2 tanks to get it to adjust to my truck before I would get accurate readings and I was never more than a 1 or 2% adjustment. The ideal way to do it to try and fill up when your tank is at the same spot each time.

I filled up yesterday with 396.3 miles on the tank and it only took 16.68 gallons. Would've gone over 400 before seeing the low fuel light. I have the 4 cylinder and a 90 mile highway round trip commute.

I've been filling up at the same pump to make sure that wasn't the case. As I said it was accurate for months until recently so I'm guessing it is the nicer weather.

I'f you guys want better mileage, the best modification you can make is to switch to an electric cooling fan on a temperature controlled circuit. Mine even pulled harder due to the freed power(i'd show the graph but the printer on my butt dyno went out)

I remember the first time I popped the hood on my Tacoma and was very surprised to see that they still used fan clutches.

I just did a 700 mile highway trip. Average speed 65 mph. The trip average was 16.7 Yankee MPG.
My V8 Dakota used to get the same.
My 2005 Fronty 2WD V6 used to get 24 - 25 under the same conditions.
My 2009 4cyl Taco 4WD would get 25ish on the exact same trip.

    Best: 19.6mpg
    Worst: 16.97mpg
    Avg: 18.39mpg

Worst was after 1k miles when I started doing the harder break in (aka flooring it every light, drop to about 10 under speed limit and punch it back to it, ect). I'm consistently getting around 19+ per tank, and I do about 80mph highway average.

I'd be interested to know why your truck gets 18.4 mpg at 80 mph, and mine gets 14 mpg at 80............Not to mention, you mileage is astoundly outside the average for a Tacoma.
Come to think of it, I figured it out.

Hmm when it's mostly highway, getting about 21.5mpg, stopping it around city about 18.7 ish. Not bad for 3k on the odo.
